Do the engine crank?
Check the connections at the battery and make sure they are tight.

SOURCE: My 2001 oldsmobile Alero security shuts down. I

unfortunately the passlock system in gm cars is garbage and has many hiccups replace the battery and the system has to relearn every thing i have replaced the body control module and that has helped me i only experience a no start about every 20 times or so the bcm is under the glove box what i found was that when it rained hard and long my car had multitudes of problems i pulled it(bcm) and discovered that where it was located if the blower motor box drain hose was clogged it would leak into the bcm and short it out it has also put my rds stereo in locked mode and cant be unlocked unless you have a tech 2 scanner(go to the dealership bend over and pay, they might even be able to unlock it for you maybe
so i have a 17,000 mile car with a great nonworking stereo and the dealership doesnt have a clue im glad we bailed these robbers out so they could screw us some more its not just oldsmobile it is a gm problem on most of their vehicles id rather have a yugo gm owes us the courtesy of at least being able to fix their product or replace it i will never own another gm car i have a honda with 240,000 mile on it and a toyota with 125,000miles and never such lame excuses for a car sign me .....foreign owner for life(by the way do you really think that your gm is made here guess again gm execs(robbers)drive imports paid for by us morons

Alero will not crank and will not start it has a brand new battery and great connections. The starter is fine but not for sure. The security light is on dont know if its a SNN problem or ignition switch...

Is the key a FOB style ? Or have a security chip in it ? Did this happen after you replaced the battery. Some cars need to have a lot of electrical components reset if power is interrupted ( battery removal ) .

Oldsmoble Alero ignition security problem

It doesn't have to be the security. a dead battery won't let the car crank either. With a security problem the car will crank but not start. The security can be reset if the battery is charged and up. Turn the key on ( do'nt crank ) the security light will stay on if it needs to be reset. If it remains on leave the key on for 15 minutes around then it will go out. turn the key off and then turn it right back on, the security light will be on again. Leave the key on till the light goes out again, then turn it off then turn it back on , wait again when it goes out turnthe key off then right back on then crank the engine and it should start. With a scanner the code will be security neweds to be reset. Thia is all anyone can do to reset the security and it's what you were charged $450 for. Following directions.

My 2001 oldsmobile alero will not start, I put gas and it would not crank over. Then the security light started flashing so I turned the key to the on poistion and was waiting 10 minutes and during that...

im just gonna take a stab in the dark here i understand that your security light is on try unlocking your door with your key sometimes you just need to reset the security. otherwise ive seen a security module go bad that may be preventing you from starting it.
