Dead battery

You have a random electrical short in the system and it is on the acc. side of your ignition system.Systems such as interior lights, glovebox light, brake lights, memory circuits for onboard computer, radio and some aftermarket components. Without me being able to see your car it is very hard to determine the cause. First determine that the battery is dead. Its possible that the battery cables have a bad connection, not at the battery but at the starter sol. or the battery cable ground connection on the engine. Clean these connections to see if you fixed it. If not then after that you will need to remove the poss. battery cable take a volt ohm meter and put the black lead to the poss. post of the battery and the red lead to the cable, set the meter to 10 amps BEFORE you hook it up. Then wate until all systems have timed out when this happens the needle will drop. If not then you have a direct short. If it does drop it should drop to less then 2 amps (that is normal) if it is above that you have a drain on the battery. Before you start this test make sure the key is out of the ign. then remove the interior light fuse that way you can open the doors without resetting the timers. Watch the meter and remove one fuse at a time, if the needle drops then that is the circuit that is giving you the trouble. Find out what that fuse controls and repair as needed. Hope this helps. Let everyone know if it did OK

The starter will not turn. When the ignition is engaged, I hear the fuel pump run, the lights come on as usual but there is no sound from the starter or the engine. I replaced the starter, but still have...

The problem sounds electrical and one of several problems it could be. Here are the possibilities:
Starter Relay - Switch the starter and AC relays, these are the same relay type doing different jobs
Alarm Starter inhibitor - If you have an alarm installed, cut the main power wire to the alarm
Voltage Regulator - Try jumping the vehicle, if it jumps test the battery if it doesn't replace the battery if the problem persist after replacing the battery remove the alternator and test it
Dead Cell in battery - Try to jump the battery, if it starts then replace the battery
Blown 80 amp in-line fuse - This is usually a small bump looking fuse, you can by pass this but first test for continuity by using a multimeter and connect on each side of the fuse.
grounded positive cable - If a cable has been running close to the frame or engine it may have worn a spot through the insulation and maybe grounding and that will interfere with the starting.

My 2003 Kia Sedona won't start. There is a ticking noise when I try to turn ignition. Radio, lights, etc. work, so it must not be the battery. We tried to jump it, but that didn't help. I'm very low on...

Ticking noise--maybe the solenold on the starter

Things light up--of coarse, they only use a small
amount of current

Gasoline Frozen--ever see that happen

Tried to jump it--can not jump a dead battery

DEAD BATTERY-or bad solenoid contacts

My car won't start, you hear one click, but nothing, we have to jump it to get to start. The alt. and the batt. and the starter work fine.. Plus our headlights don't work.

If the vehicle need to be jumped then the battery is too weak to start the car.
1. replace battery
2. with good battery start car and check charging system If voltage reads below 13volts possibly the alternator is bad.

Check bulb in headlight ( do not touch the glass part of the head lamp)
a good way to check is replace one with a new one see if it comes on.
If not check fuse for the headlamps ( I am assuming you are talking about low beams)

2002 Chevy Suburban...Power/Battery?

Make sure battery is fully charged, try jump starting it, if it starts, and you can get a volt meter, put the test leads on the battery terminals, red positive black negative, have the dial on the meter at 12volts DC.
With the motor running, the meter should read between 14 and 15 volts, below that, the alternator isn't charging and needs replacing.
If it still clicks with a jump, the starter solenoid is bad and needs replacing. The solenoid is on top of the starter, which has to be removed to fix it.

Car wiil not start while turning key but makes a ticking noise

Obvious choise is a dead battery.

Check your lights, horn (horn often sounds weak or sickly with a dead battery.)

If a dead battery, check the battery terminals for corrosion.

Try charging or jumping the car off. If it starts, take to an auto parts place, most will do a battery/alternator check for free. (Be prepared, they will make you kill the engine, which means you either buy a battery there & replace, or better have cables to jump off and drive somewhere else. on other hand, most will lend you some wore out tools to install the new battery, but their insurance does not allow them to do it for you. )

Car won't start. Acts like the battery is dead, however I can't jump start it.

Well if you cant jump start it thats a good sign that the battery is dead so replace it and you should be fine, and another way you can try is hook the battery up to a charger overnight and if it doesnt hold its charge then you will know if its dead or not.

How much to fix the starter in my 97 oldsmbile achieva

maker sure you have proper voltage. Anything less then 12.2 will cause a starter to act like its OUT.

Commonly looking at around 300 bucks for a new starter and shop rate to replace.

Check that battery first. thats my guess. especailly since you have been jumping it. The cells are probably too dead to hold any charge and its sucking up all the voltage from the car your jumping from. Especially in COLD weather. GOOD LUCK! -jeff

93 buick lesabre 3.8 liter starter replaced, new one just clicks

Given the steps you have taken, only one of two things this can be is a resistive connection between the battery and the starter solenoid terminal. Or the battery itself has a bad internal connection. Bear in mind: you cannot crank the engine through the average set of jumper cables unless the battery in the dead vehicle will hold and deliver a good charge. Jumper cables are not really intended to start the car, they are for boosting the good, but low battery in the car being jumped.
