Honda Civic 01 has a defetive torque converter that prematurely fails. Same issue with the Odyssey 03 to 05. (The difference is Odyssey got a recall whereas the Civic did not). When it does, debris gets into the transmisson thereby clogging the filter and sometimes ruins the gears. There is no drop pans for this type of transmission and the filter is located inside the transmission housing itself which renders it to be serviceable by transmission shops ONLY. Most often, when the torque converter fails, the entire transmission will need to be overhauled or replaced. A cost that could run from $850 for a rebuilt to $2000 for an OEM. The best cost effective way to remedy this siuation is to replace the torque converter before the mileage reaches to 100K. A rebuilt one only cost $120 or $700 for an OEM with labor ranging around $350. Far cheaper than a transmission replacement. If your Civic 01 is still running and it is beyond 100K, run fast to a transmission shop and replace the torque converter immediately. If the transmission is already starting to slip, replace the torque conventer and flush the transmission and pray that the tranny was not significantly damaged by the debri. Remember, the recommended trans fluid change for Civic is 120K / 6 yrs or 30K / 6 months if driving in severe conditions.

Shift Solenoid for A/T transmission problem. no parts is available. 1month period is needed for the part in honda service center in the philippines. where can i buy the parts?.


You can usually locate some parts at automatic transmission specialist and the parts are not original but they do work, otherwise you can locate a wrecker as Honda Civic is a very common vehicle.

Tell me, did the dealership inform you that your vehicle did NOT have an electrical problem? If they did, they lied!

My gears are not shift


You will need to check the automatic transmission fluid level to make sure it is full. Allow the engine to get warm and then open the hood and pull the transmission dipstick out. Wipe it off with a rag and then stick it back into the fill hole. Verify that your fluid level is up to the line. If it is low, add Honda ATF fluid to bring the level up. If your car is a manual transmission, you will need to get underneath the car and then open up the metal plug. Use a large ratchet with a breaker bar and remove the plug. Grab some gear oil with a handpump attached and then pump new fluid into the hole until it starts to run out. After it starts to run out, quickly seal up the hole and retighten your plug. The shift control solenoid externally mounted on the transmission can also fail and cause your Civic to not shift. Replacing the shift solenoid and flushing the transmission with genuine Honda automatic transmission fluid may eliminate this problem. A broken internal spring can cause the same issue. If the shift control solenoid does not repair the problem, the transmission may need to be replaced.

My 1997 Honda Civic has a few seconds delay engaging into Reverse. Forward gears have no problems but when i put it in "R" it takes like 5 seconds before engaging. Fluid level is ok.


Basically you should have the vehicle's reverse circuit pressure tested by a certified ASE Transmission Repair Shop.They will be able to tell you if there is a blockage in the cricuit, reverse shift solenoid is on its way out ,or a gearing problem even if there is a manual shift valve issue. Good luck
