When you pump the gas, you shut off the fuel injectors. could have one leaking causing it to flood and not start

98 chevy 2500 wont start after cutting off while i was driving

Turn the key to the on (not run) position and listen tosee if you could hear the fuel pump turn on (prime) for a few seconds. If not, check the fuel pump fuse and if its good, its probably a bad fuel pump.

How did it die? Did it feel like you were out of gas?

Ran out of gas 2003 pontic grand am now it wont start,

You have a fuel pump THAT HAS FAILED for the following reasons. When you run out of gas the tiny electric fuel pump inside the gas tank overheats and the bearings are damaged from lack of lubricantion, both cooling and lubrication of the fuel pump come from the gas it runs in. You may get away with running out of gas a few times but you have set a ticking time bomb off, the pump is damaged and will fail sooner than normal. When you buy a new pump it comes with this warning, DO NOT RUN THE YOUR NEW FUEL PUMP WITHOUT ENOUGH GAS IN THE TANK (ABOUT 4 GALLONS) TO COVER IT UP IN THE TANK OR THE WARRANTY IS VOIDED. THE WARRANTY IS ALSO VOIDED IF YOU DON'T REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER AND CAN PROVE IT WAS REPALCED.

My yukon ran out of gas while at an idel and now after i put in 7 gallons of gas checked all fuse boxs, I still have power but my cluster panel does not register anything with the gauges and does not turn...

When you say "turn over" do you mean "it wont start" ? These two things are very different. "Wont turn over" is like when the battery is dead, you turn the key and nothing happens. "Wont start" is like it's out of gas. (the engine cranks but wont start.) I'm not being sarcastic or insulting, I just want to make sure we are on the same page.

One is a battery/starter problem and the other is a fuel/ignition problem. If it is dead like a dead battery, (except you know it's not because the headlights are still working, then you didn't run out of gas, seven gallons would have made it start. If what I just described is the case you may have a bad ignition switch. Kind of unlikley on somthing that new, but not unheard of.

These fuel pumps do not like to be run dry. They are meant to be submerged in gasoline for cooling. If it cranks but wont start it is most likley the fuel pump. I know, it seems crazy to put an electric pump in the gas tank but that's where it is. A new pump is going to cost about $300, plus labor. The tank has to come out...lots of fun. The pump sits on the very bottom of the tank and some times you can get them to run one more time by having someone turn the engine over while you bang on the bottom of the tank. It doesn't always work but if it does it saves you having to tow it some where to get it fixed. If you do get it running do not pass go, do not shut it off until you are ready to put a new pump in it. you wont get another chance. Since the part is spendy you want to make sure it's bad before you go buy one. Or pay someone to do it for you. Up at the intake manifold there is a valve on the fuel line (looks a lot like a valve stem on a tire) It is there for testing fuel pressure. Even if you don't have a pressure gauge, you can depress the valve ( be prepared for a healthy shot of gas, there is supposed to be about 50 psi) do this with the key in the run position. If gas just dribbles's the pump.

Overheating problem

water pump. water pump. water pump. i am a vw dealer tech and on 2.0 and 1.8t beetles the water pump impeller is plastic, and what happens is usually another component, fans, fan control module (under battery tray), thermostat, fails and because the impeller is plastic with just one overheat the plastic becomes brittle and shatters, pull the water pump out and you will see the impeller in 3 or 4 pieces. replace water pump and make sure t stat opens, fans come on (a/c off) and proper water pump flow.
