Leaking oil from around a small plug near the oil

I have a 1993 silhouette. i am leaking oil at the front of the engine. the source appears to be a small electrical plug right next to the oil filter. there are 3 wires coming out of it. i can not tell if the oil is coming out the end where the wires are or at the base where it connects to the engine.

This is your oil pressure sending unit. there is a diaphragm inside which can rupture, causing the oil to leak through the sensor. replacing it is as simple as unscrewing the old one and screwing the new one in. the part should be available at any good parts store, and should come in the package with thread sealant applied. good luck!

This is the oil pressure sending unit.

The easiest thing to do is get a new one, remove the old wone, and install the new one.

The oil is supposed to be kept separate from the electrical part, but sometimes they spring an internal leak. Replacing is easier than trying to get really specific about just where the oil is coming from. And once you do get specific, you almost always reach the same finding: a new unit is needed.

2004 chevy cav just had cracked radiator replaced with new one.. now small leak in front and tail pipe dripping water.

No, you should not worry. Tail pipe dripping isn't related to your radiator. It's common especially if your vehicle sits alot.

Small oil leak. You need to find the source of it. Use some good engine degreaser and clean it up. You should then be able to find where it's coming from as you fire it up and check around. I understand sometimes that's hard because things are packed in. How fast are you losing oil? Check the level on your dipstick.

Our 2004 Isuzu Rodeo has developed a coolant leak. The leak appears to be around or above a little panel or plate immediately behind the oil pan? Cannot find any other source. What is inside the littl

You will have to clarify behind the oil pan. Front of engine towards fan. Rear of engine transmission side. Or above the pan towards engine side. If there is coolant leaking from behind the engine (between the engine and trans) and is not running down from above eg head gasket or hose connection, chances are good that there is a frost plug leaking on the rear of the block.

I have a 1999 Chrysler 300m 3.5 that is leaking oil. There is no obvious source from the engine, though it is possible. The car overheated last year and I had the dealer replace water pump and timing...

CK- Try a set of Valve Cover Gaskets. It cannot leak from the front cover area because it is where the timing belt rides and there is no entrance into the engine EXCEPT the front CAM SEAL... Remove the cover and look toward that seal behind the cam sprocket. If so it is also leaking down into the front cover and beyond. But look at the Valve cover gasket first, since you mention that source.

Sounds like valve cover gasket is leaking. It leaks down side of engine onto everything in it's path. Stop by a local parts store and have them take a peak, they'll be glad to help you out.

I have what appears to be a oil and fuel leak. 1988 olds toronado

1. Check the oil (with dipstick) see if it smells the same as the oil spot you were detecting.

2. Fuel leaks are usually accompanied by a strong odor of fuel and time the vehicle is running.

I will guess that this car has quite a few miles on it. Having the gas ending up in the oil a bit is normal for high miles engines. As they get older they should be changed more often to keep this from happening.

As for the oil leak, only a visual inspection can determine the leak source. I would bet on a seal.

don't run the engine with coolant in the oil the sugar content in most anti freexes will crystalize the rod and main bearings causing severe internal damage to the crankshaft! pull the spark plugs one at a time! to see which one has water on them and then remove the cylinderhead on that side and replace the head gasket and check for a crack around the exhaust valves but tis better when you tear a engine down! too! replace both!! head gaskets!

1993 Ford F150 smoke coming from spark plug

If it's on the outside of the hole, it could be as simple as a gasket leaking from above or near. Oil on new spark plug electrode area, is something to be concerned about. Is the engine running o.k. now? What engine is it?
