it does not fire at all, has plenty of battery, the scanner I have needs an adapter to fit the 12 pin port,I am looking for one of them now.an old mechanic that worked for chevy in the 90's said that they had a lot of trouble with the ecm's that year because they were mounted inside behind the heater core and would crack.if I put the scanner on it and the ecm is bad what code will come up? any info I can get will be helpfull.oh this car has been sitting for 5 years ,I put new fuel and stabilizer in it.thanx Art

Hi,I need to know what engine you have and the 8th diget or letter of the vin.the codes are not the same for all engines.you said this car sat for 5 years,so the battery has went dead and you have lost any codes that may have been present.you can try to retrive them by useing a paper clip and jumping terminal A to terminal B. the check engine light will flash it will start out with 12 one flash a pause and two flashes this will flash 12 three times and if there is any other codes it will flash them three times as well.if you get any codes we can go from there.was the car running when it was parked?a car sitting that long had to have mice get into it and mice love wires.i would look for mouse homes and any chewed or broken wires.I have seen many cars that sat like that and had to replace plenty of the wires.respond back and let me know what you find.hope this helps and gets you started in the right direction Thank You for using fixya... iluv2fish.....Ray.....

I have a used good air bag control mod for my 2009 Kia optima, where is it located and will I have reprogram the ECM

Why do you need to replace the airbag control module is the better question... Well, the ECM should be fine with the new part. However be sure that you have unplugged the battery before starting work. Having an airbag go off if your face will mean a trip to the hospital.

As for actually finding where the unit is located you should check the factory shop manual.

On my 2001 Nissan Quest 3.3L #5 cilynder miss fire replace sparkplugs, wire, distributor, and injector still miss fire so I hook a noid light to it, it won't light up at all can it be the ECM and if you...

I don't know where it is, probably under the passenger side dash. But before condemning the ECM, check the wiring to that injector. First try to determine if it is the power wire or the ground wire for the injector which is lost. With key on, the yellow power wire should have voltage on it at the injector connector. This is independent of the ECM-only the ground wire goes into the ECM, to be internally grounded to pulse the injector. The #5 ground wire is a yellow-green wire.

If you have voltage on the power wire to #5, key on, then we know either the ground wire is bad (broken or open) to the ecm -or the internal ground for that injector is out, inside the ECM.

To determine whether it is the ground wire or the ECM, you will have to locate the ECM, pull the electrical connector off to it (Be sure and take the negative battery post off, first.), then locate the yellow green wire at pin #106 of the ECM electrical connector. Now test the continuity of that wire from the injector connector to the ECM connector-use a voltmeter set to ohms. If the wire has continuity, then the ECM must have a problem- the internal injector driver for #5 may have failed. Also look for a bent pin at #106, or anything amiss in the electrical connector. In most cases, it is not the ECM but a wiring problem.
Good luck. To locate the ECM, register for free at autozone.com, listing make, model, and year. Look under "repair guides", then component locations-it should tell you the location of the ECM.

My VW Mk1 1.4i 2008 over fueling and does not idle... whats could be wrong?

Hi.
If your fuel pressure is good, timing is good, and compression is good, it is very possible that your ECM, (Engine Control Module) is bad. The computer is not properly modulating the pulse width on the injectors. The pulse width is too wide/long causing the injectors to dump too much fuel. In short, the injectors are staying open too long. Check your connections on your ECM to make sure there are snug. Try removing your battery terminals, unplug the ECM connectors for a few minutes and then plug the ECM back in, reconnect the battery terminals and try it again and see if this helps. If this does not work the ECM is more than likely bad. Hope this helps.

I have an audi 500sel 93 manual AAH Engine, no fire to the plugs, car refuses to start. checked computer box, 2 crank sensors, modulator, the coils all tested okay and fuel coming to injectors ok. timing...

We will star a list of what is good.and what controls spark
1. crank sensor .you done it
2.ignition control module. located on the center of bulkhead, behind intake air hose
3.coils. you tested it.
4.ECM located under passenger side foot well

ECM no you got fuel,so lets leave it out
cranksensor okay you replaced it
ICM ignition control moduel.
no spark you cover everthing. has to be a loose or no contact connection somewhere, you covered it all.you might want to tap on the ecm., or check the fuse for power to junction the ones in the hood area those can blow and not give power to ignition system

Where is the ECM located

Hello.

The ECM is mounted on the right side of the dash above where the passengers feet would be.
The lower panel will need to be removed to see it.
Here is the service manual procedure to remove it.
  1. Turn ignition to "OFF".
  2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  3. Remove right hand hush panel.
  4. Disconnect connectors from the ECM
  5. Remove ECM mounting hardware.
  6. Remove ECM from the passenger compartment.
  7. Remove ECM access cover.
  8. Transfer PROM unit to replacement ECM. Using two fingers, push both retaining clips back away from the PROM. At the same time, grasp it at both ends and lift it up out of the socket. Do not remove the cover of the PROM. Use of unapproved PROM removal methods may cause damage to the PROM or socket.
  9. Remove new ECM from its packaging and check the service number to make sure it is the same as the defective ECM.
  10. Remove access cover.

There you are. I hope your repair goes well.

Check all the fuse on the side of the dash, there should be two fuse for the ECM and make sure there both good. Good luck and check all the wire harness to the ECM which is located on the passenger side finder towards the firewall from the battery.
