Bite the bullet and spend the big bucks at the dealer. it is the only way to get it fixed and i do not care for dealers, but in this case they've got you by the short ones. you will spend more time, money and aggrevation trying to fix it yourself or by having an independant do it.

I have a 2004 mustang with 56,000 miles in South Florida. Last winter on our first cold morning it cranked 5 times before it started. 2 weeks later it did it again. Now, 1 year later on a foggy morning, it did the same thing. It cranks fast. I take the key out and crank it. after the 5th time it starts. It always starts and did this 1 year ago. what is going on? tallbeachguy@yahoo.com if you have a clue. Is the weather a part of it? The anti- theft is messed up sometimes?

From my experience...
A non PATS coded key SHOULD not turn the STARTER...!

If ANTI-THEFT were invoked... you can attain a not start condition which the Owners Manual says must be cleared by the dealer.

A working PATS key should disable the anti theft... by turning the ignition on... ELSE try your other key.

The SecuriLock [PATS]
passive anti-theft system is not compatible with
non-Ford aftermarket remote start systems. Use of these systems may
result in vehicle starting problems and a loss of security protection.

Could anti-theft system d mustang cause car to shut off while driving?

Hi, im a retired ford tech, with alot of experience on ford anti theft . Now if you are asking about a built in oem factory anti theft, your not going to be able to bypass it. Now to answer your question, I would say your factory anti theft IS NOT causing your issue. It will make it unable to start,it doesnt kill anything else.

Problem is in the {PAPS) anti-theft system.car wont start

I had the same problem - My car would not start. There is a bypass button in your car that when you press and start the car at the same time the car will start. To find this button look just above the hood release lever or in that area there is the bypass button. I finally had to remove the anti-theft system and now my car starts fine. The dealer would not replace the anti-theft, but could remove it but the cost was way to high, so I went to place were they replace car radio and other similiar services and payed around $30.00 to have it remove. They also told me that I really did not need this system on my car, because you can't start the car without the key.

Hope this help.

2004 mustang won't start because of anti theft system

Did you check the battery of the car (maybe loose cable)? but if it just happen suddenly, it might be your altenator that wasn't charging your battery. I think once there's enough power gone through the car then your anti-theft system should work as normal again.

you need to have your key reprogrammed. even a plain spare key will set off the alarm if it does not have a chip programmed with the same code as the anti theft system.

you need to have the key reprogrammed by a locksmith or the dealership. it will only start and stay running with the original or reprogrammed key.

Anti theft system

The chip is in the key. Either the key has lost it's program or the transceiver is not recognising the key. Try another key if you have one.

On start flashing theft light on 02 windstar

I just had this same thing happen with my Ford Taurus, and it turned out to be a bad key. The repair shop switched back and forth between two different keys we had with us 10 or 12 times, and it always started with the good key, never with the "bad" key. They said if the theft light is flashing quickly, that means the anti-theft system is engaging. If the anti-theft light just lights up, that is normal.
