There is no ‘nother.’
If the cable is broken, you are going to have to try to reach up past the radiator and all, and operate the catch manually. Difficult!
If the system is intact, but rusty, you will have to try to use a lightweight lubricant to free it up (WD-40, AeroKroil). Do not get rough with it if it is intact, because you can easily break it; then you will have no choice but to try to operate it directly, reaching up past the radiator. That is really pretty hard, and you want to avoid having to do that if possible.
