Question about 2002 Suzuki Vitara

1 Answer

My 2002 Suzuki Vitara made a noise while starting. Now it will turn over but will not start. I took it to a local mechanic and he read the service engine code and said I needed a cam position sensor. He replaced the sensor and it did not fix the problem. He say's it still has no spark and almost no fuel. Any idea's???

02 Suzuki vitara getting an p0340 code on diagnostic tool. replaced the camshaft sensor and engine still just turns over without starting. eng. is a 4cyl gas burner

no country stated?
gas. ok,...
now engine stated.? G16, or j20? radially different they are.

i cant see which CMP you have
the huge puck type,
or the same with extractable small CMP sensor
the latter is easy swap
the former must be timed using the timing freeze jumper clip.

no story here, the full story
one day, it stalled.
then i scanned it and 340 popped
or got 340s after the new sensors.????????

no matter check for spark.
if got spark x4
check timing,? yes, timing light work on dead engines. sure do.
if timed wrong, then you did that.
if G16 engine the cam belt slipped,
j20 is chain drive cam.
j20 has CMP sensor on the left rear DOHC cam.

if sparks ok, test fuel now works, sprayed.

It struggles to start sometimes, other times it doesnt. yesyerday i heard a screaching noise while driving, later that night it wouldnt start. the car lights were diming then nithing

Check your belts, the screaching noise was probably coming from the belt slipping. Make sure the alternator and all the pulleys are turning freely.

Have a 2001 GR Vitara with rattly engine noise. Seems to go OK. Mileage 89000km..Thought it may be Timing chain..any ideas

well without hearing it its difficult to say but a new timing chain adjuster will help ,if it is the timing chain then just a new adjuster will cure it but it could be the cam followers its difficult to point you in the right direction without hearing it myself then i could tell you exactly ,ask a local mechanic for his opinion first before you start playing with it though

I have a Suzuki Vitara 2002.. it'll start and run but then turns off here and there... when it turns off, I try turning it back on but won't start.. it'll only start when I try starting it again about 15...

Write suzuki directly, or contact them, first try your local suzuki dealer , if that doesnt work try corporate offices. This is a very common problem that occurs alot in most suzuki's. I myself just bought a 2001 vitara 2 weeks ago & have the same problem. It starts up fine in the morning but if I stop somewhere with the car & let it idle , it starts to stall & shut off completely & then I have to wait 10 to 20 minutes before it will turn on. Suzuki should admit to this problem & have a recall. I have read hundreds of articles of people all over the states with the same problem. The dealers are telling everyone " well we dont know what the problem is". Its their JOB! They should know!

The engine sometimes runs at a very high sound

Hi!
What you can try is to cool the "camshaft rotary sensor" by pouring (normal) water (which I also did just last week) and it works to start & run the car until the next pull-over. You have to redo pouring water if you stop the endine and does not re-start. But this may be just an emergency solution wherein you have to let the car be serviced by a mechanic.

2000 Suzuki Vitara will not start when engine hot. Runs fine and starts well when cold. On investigation - no spark. any Ideas, Paul

Hi! My friend and I have experienced similar problem with each of our Suzuki Grand Vitara 2000 (his) and 2002 (mine). He discovered (two years ago) that cooling the "camshaft rotary sensor" by pouring (normal) water (which I also did just last week) and it works to start & run the car until the next pull-over. You have to redo pouring water if you stop the endine and does not re-start. But this may be just an emergency solution wherein you have to let the car be serviced by a mechanic.
