May or may not help... I've had ongoing issues with my heater/ac, where it's like a vapor lock or something, sometimes the selected vent etc. doesn't work right, etc., like the vacuum control is f'd up.
I topped off my coolant, and things cleared up. Air in the coolant lines???
Hope this is a cheap fix for you.

the plastic around the gear shifter will pop up with a good pull, then turn it side ways to get over the shifter, then there are 2 screws the hold the bezel down around the radio and air vents, then just pull from the air vents it will pop off to reveil the screws to the radio

If you feel this rattle while driving at low speed or turning at low speed it is likely a worn out steering shaft coupler, it is very common.
