START WITH THE BASICS. CLEAN, FULL 50/50 MIX IN SYSTEM. CHANGE THERMOSTAT. LOOK FOR TRACES OF COOLANT LOSS FROM THE WEEP HOLE IN BOTTOM OF WATER PUMP (USUALLY UNDER PULLEY). WATER PUMP DRIVE BELT OR SERPENTINE BELT MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO MAKE SURE RADIATOR CAP IS WORKING PROPERLY.CHECK FOR LEAKS ANT WHERE ELSE IN ENGINE AREA.

I NEED PROCES TO REMPLACE THE WATER PUMP FOR CAVALIER 2003

Drain the coolant. Slightly loosen the water pump pulley bolts, but don't remove. Remove the serpentine belt, by inserting a 3/8" ratchet in the square hole of the tensioner, and turn counter-clockwise until belt can be removed. Remove the water pump pulley bolts, remove pulley. Remove the water pump mounting bolts to the engine. Remove the water pump. Carefully clean off all old gasket material, use course sandpaper the clean the engine side surface. Install water pump with new gasket, install bolts, tighten to 18 ft/lbs. install the pulley and snug bolts. Reinstall belt and retighten pulley bolts. Fill with coolant, open bleeder valve until coolant runs out. Close bleeder, Install rad cap, start engine until thermostat opens to get all the air out of the system. Let engine cool, recheck coolant level, and check for leaks.

Procedure on changing waterpump

  1. first drain the cooling system.
  2. loosen bolts on the waterpump pulley and remove the inner fender cover on the pass/side.
  3. remove the surpentine fan belt, note; make a diagram of the belt routing so belt will go back on the right way.
  4. remove the bolts you loosened on the pump pulley, use a pry bar to pry engine back to have enough room to remove the waterpump pulley.
  5. remove the bolts holding waterpump, you will want a pan under the van to catch coolant when waterpump is removed,
  6. remove the pump and clean old gasket off the block and install new pump,
  7. reverse to install new pump and fill system with coolant allow engine to run until thremostat opens, hope this is helpful. heres a few diagrams of the waterpump and the cover and the belt routing, good luck and hope this is helpful.

Engine is running hot

Check coolant reservoir level, check cooling fan if working, check if no leaks on the water pump...If engine newly installed, chances are drive belts are not installed properly.

The serpintine belt shredded on one side, and fell off. Much coolant was released from the vehicle. Don't know which happened first. The pulleys all move freely, except for the crank pulley, which I...

You lost coolant and the water pump pulley is "wobbly". You'll need to replace the water pump because the same thing is going to happen when you replace the belt and *** coolant.

DO NOT use cooling system seal tabs (or similar compounds) unless otherwise instructed. The use of cooling system seal tabs (or similar compounds) may restrict coolant flow through the passages of the cooling system or the engine components. Restricted coolant flow may cause engine overheating and/or damage to the cooling system or the engine components/assembly.

Install or connect the following:

Water pump. Install the water pump bolts. Tighten the water pump bolts first pass to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm); tighten the bolts final pass to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). Water pump drive belt pulley and bolts (if applicable). Tighten the pulley bolts first pass to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm); tighten the bolts final pass to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm). Make sure it's cool, pop the radiator cap, Remove the shield on the passenger side between the tire and front of engine. Relieve the tension on the serp belt, draw yourself a diagram of the pulleys and belt routing in case the sticker is gone on the strut tower, remove the serp belt. Take the bolts out of the pulley on the front of the water pump (3). Remove the lower radiator hose at the front cover to drain the coolant. Remove the 6 mm bolts holding the water pump to the front cover housing. tap on the pump with a rubber hammer. Install a new gasket on the new pump, and a weap hole diverter in the pump (round black about hte size of a quarter), use old one if there's no new one. Install pupm and tighten bolts snug with a 1/4" ratchet. Install pulley and 3 bolts. Install belt, top off radiator with 50/50 mix green coolant. start engine and run to operating temperature, make sure the belt is seated in all of the pulleys and is running true, radiator fans should come on. Shut engine down and let cool overnight. Check level in radiator and overflow bottle, top off as necessary.
