With the light off, you will also get better gas mileage, the only time you used it with over drive off is if your pulling a trailer or going up a steep hill and need more power,

I have honda accord wagon 1991 in the dash board the letter s is on and off when I drive

I have a 91 accord coupe with an automatic transmission. The letter S on the dash represents the "Sports Shift" designation for the transmission. There should be a small button on the side of your shifter that controls this feature. It sounds like your depressing the button with realizing it.

The front of the handle has a large "U" clip. Use a screw drive and pry the clip out. It's a lot easier to do when the shifter is pulled all the way back to "1" or "2" but is doable in park still. The handle will then pull up. There will be a plastic piece in it that pushes down to release the lock in the shifter assembly. If when you push the plastic piece down it doesn't release the lock you will have to remove the shifter cover and take a look inside, to see what broke. It may require replacing the whole shifter assembly. You should be able to find the complete assembly used for fairly cheap.

96 chevy 3500 4wheel drive doesnot engage

if the truck has a push button system you may have to go underneathe the truck an see if the connection harness has any breakage or if the harness is not tightly plugged in is the first step if that all checks out try the fuse relay center which should be located in the drivers door jam on the side of the dash when door is open make sure the 4x4 disengage and engage fuse is not blown then the third is pull off the face of the dash and make sure the connector is tight and working in order then do a simple test of the switch with a tester.
if you have the floor shifter then go underneath and see if the linkage could have come unhooked or the wire harness may have come undone the same way. Good Luck

My tacoma shifter "floats" in and out of gear while driving

My cars are the same way. You can shift in and out of neutral without holding the release button. I'm not sure if it is a safety feature or not, but it's a standard feature.

Removing an automatic gear shift out of a sc400

position the shifter into the drive position, pull down on the plastic trim directly underneath the leather portion of the shifter. theres two phillips head screws behind that. remove the shifter knob and the plastic piece. the trim will pop out if you pull directly upwards, disconnect the heated seats(if you have them) and the trac button. hope that helps.
