Question about 1996 Pontiac Sunfire
Hello! There are a few sensors that need to be tested...#1 the Intake Air Temperature sensor (IAT) It is located in the inlet hose...Has a two wire connector...Colors are...Tan and Black...When engine is hot...Disconnect the plug...Using an ohm meter... The resistance across the sensor pins...Reads approx. 175 ohms...When at ambient temperature (65-70 degrees) the resistance reads 3,000 ohms...If not the IAT is defective...
Next is the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor (MAP)...It is also bolted to the throttle body...Has a three wire connector...colors are...Orange/Black...Light Green...And Gray...Using two safety pins push them into the rear of the MAP connector on the Orange/Black and Light Green...When engine is hot...Using a volt meter...Set to read 5 volts...Hook the + probe to the Orange/Black safety pin and the - to the Light Green pin...Turn on the key...Meter must read 5 volts....
