It is good till 60k miles. It is good to change it slightly more often than that in case of any metal shards from bad gear changes are in the oil. Remember to clean out the magnetic catch too.

-Just change the fluid...?
-If so. There are couple way to change.
-If there is not plug like toyota and Honda, you need to unbolt
all the bolts that hold the transmission oil pan and drop the pan.

Tip

When NOT to change your transmission oil.

This is from our transmission shop and many others like us: If you have not religiously changed your automatic transmission fluid every 30,000 miles, STOP - DO NOT Change the fluid or filter, not only is it a waste of money, but the old fluid has 'particles in suspension' (clutch disc fibers), and when you replace the fluid you are removing those particles, of which, the clutch discs now need for internal engagement (when fluid is not changed regularly). This supporting fact comes from many reputable transmission shops (including ours), that have found out throughout the years that: "If you DO change the fluid on high mileage automatic transmissions that have NOT had transmission oil changes on a regular interval as described by the OEM's,(Original Engine Manufacturers) suggestion; transmission FAILURE will result within 1 to 6 MONTHS of further use." Save money and heed this warning!!

Changing transmission fluid

transmission fluid change is similar to changing the oil you need to find where the gearbox sump plug is and undo it and fluid will come out. to replace fluid with new pour it into where you check the fluid level

What is the recommended millage for a transmission flush

Transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles, or more frequently if the vehicle is used for towing or carrying heavy loads.

When replacing the transmission fluid, first the mechanic drives the vehicle to get the fluid warm and then removes the drain plug at the bottom of the transmission (if applicable), or removes the transmission pan allowing the fluid to drain.

The transmission is then filled with fresh fluid, and the engine is started. With the engine running and the transmission in "Park," the mechanic checks the level of the transmission fluid on the dipstick. Then the vehicle is driven once more, and the fluid level rechecked; if needed, more fluid is added.

Using the wrong automatic transmission fluid may invalidate the manufacturer's warranty and affect the shift characteristics of the transmission. Consult the owner's manual for information on the kind of fluid to use.

Many automatic transmissions have a filter that can be replaced when changing the transmission fluid. Changing this filter may allow a closer examination of the fluid for debris, which may be a sign that the transmission is about to fail.

Hope this helps.

The transmission seems to slip when going in reverse in my Ford Explorer 1994 (OK going forward). Transmission fluid is OK.

have one myself w/over 400.000 miles suggest you change transmission fluid and filter, just add lucas transmission treatment to your fluid change. never had problems w.mine. but firm beleiver in lucas oil and transmission and fuel treatments. just trying to see how far i can go w/mine. the lucas treatment added to your fluid and transmission fluid and filter change frees up stuck valves in the transmission. sounds alot like you may have a stuck valve body in the transmission to me.pull your transmission fluid dip stick, this is going to sound strange but go with me for a second please, does the fluid smell burnt? do'nt be scared to put it on your finger and sniff it. if it smells like burnt expletitive, then it needs replaced and filter too. just please add lucas transmission treatment to your fluid change, you will not regret it. the treatment [lucas] will cost an extra $11.00 onto the fluid change, trust me, you will not regret it!fluid changes are a must for ford explorers 4x4 don't know why,but they demand baby formula. lucas,i've found is that formula. thank you for choosing fixya.com we are here 24/7 for you 7days

I need to change the transmission fluid, How to do that?

As there is no drain plug for transmission fluid like there is for engine oil, the only way to change the transmission fluid is to remove the transmission cover located under the car. The cover is held on by by something like 18-20 bolts. When you remove the transmission cover you'll need to replace the gasket. It is a good idea to replace the transmission fluid filter when changing the fluid and seeing it is sold with the new gasket for the transmission cover. Hope that helps

Where is the drain plug located on a Volvo 2000

There no tranny drain plug, you must drop the pan to change the fluid and filter. Standard fluid is fne. I believe Dextron3 but double check with the autoparts store (tell them you have a volvo) and they can lookup the correct type of ATF.

Ya but if nissan planted filter's in there tansmission's then they would grow, right?NISSAN does not install filter's in the tran's.It is a permanent screen and luckily for people all I have to do is undo the plug from the pan and drain while hot, screw the screw the plug back in and funnel your new fluid back in to the tran from the dip stick tube(my 04 sentra 1.8s 4speed automatic takes 5 quart's but holds 6-type D nissan fluid from dealer, change about every 15 to 20 thousand miles to keep it clean and thin.Remember trans fluid is petroleum and get's hot burn's and thicken's making restriction's on rotating metal). My car has over 90,000miles and shift's perfect
