Question about 2005 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

Gas smell from 2005 Impala vents

Over the past 6 months, we have been smelling gas from our vents. It typically fades after driving a few miles but is present nearly every time we first get in the vehicle. It gets worse if you turn the fan up to high since you get more air from under the hood. There is no visible gas leaking on the ground anywhere around the vehicle. It is clearly coming from somewhere under the hood, nothing near the rear of the car.

What are some specific things to check on my own and where might I locate them?

Thanks!

SOURCE: Gas smell coming from under the hood

it could be your head gaskets and thermostat going bad. those have to be fixed or your car will overheat and will cost tons of money to fixed...just went through the same thing

SOURCE: 2005 Chevy Impala exhaust smell

neither one of these would cause gas to leak. sure it is not coolant ? if you think it is gas it is not safe to drive car as it could catch on fire. possible cause would be a leaking injector.

SOURCE: smelling gas

those cars have had numerous problems with leaking fuel injectors, the problem is that its hard to find due to the heat of the engine drying the fuel up before it can make a visible drip or stain. Please address this quickly due to the danger of fires.

smell gas in the cabin Kenny, Fuel line is probably leaking, would have checked immediately by a qualified tech. This could be extremely dangerous if fuel is spraying/leaking on hot surface such as exhaust.

I smell gas but i'm not lossing any.

My first question is - is the check engine light on when you are driving ?
You could have a leaking injector which could be causing fuel to escape thru the exhaust. You could also have a leak in the vent system for the gas tank.
The need for coolant and oil if no leaks are visible usually means the engine is burning the fluids because of an internal engine leak or head gasket problem.

SMELL GAS YOU NEED CHECK ALL FUEL LINES UNDER THE HOOD IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.IF GAS IS STRONG UNDER HOOD YOU DONT SEE LEAKING FUEL LINES.YOUR FUEL RAIL FUEL INJECTORS LEAKING OR FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR O - RING OR DIAPHRAM LEAKING GAS.IF FIND NO LEAKS UNDER THE HOOD CHECK FUEL LINES UNDER CAR FROM ENGINE TO FUEL TANK FOR LEAKS.IF ALL IS GOOD YOUR EVAPORATIVE CANISTER SOAKED WITH GAS OR YOUR EMISSION EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM NOT WORKING. 2000 Tahoe, I smell gas after I turn off the

May be nothing more than a faulty gas cap or vent hose from the tank to the filler neck. Your charcoal canister for the fuel evaporation system may not be purging. It could be filling up with gas. It will eventually overflow, allowing you to see the problem.

NO NO NO.....GO TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO A SMOG STATION AND ASK THEM TO TEST THE GAS CAP FOR YOU. VISUALLY LOOKING AT A GAS CAP WILL NOT TELL YOU GOOD OR BAD. THEY CHARGE 10.00 AND WILL TELL YOU IF THE GAS CAP IS LEAKING. DONE IT TOO MANY TIME WITH DAIMLER CHRYSLER.
