Try cleaning the Idle control valve (IAC), If your lazy like i am use the whole throttle body cleaner and spray it as close as you can to the throttle blades. Follow the instructions on the back of the can, I end up using two cans, make sure it's Throttle Body Cleaner not carb cleaner.
The carb cleaner is to strong and may eat up the O rings in the throttle body and o rings to the other sensors like the IAC.
With the engine off, Disconnect the IAC wire harness and inspect for any corrosion and may want to spray a little WD40 and re connect if there are no problem with the connection.
Time to reset the IAC to the ECM. Turn on the Ignition for 20 seconds, on the run position with the engine not running. Turn the Ignition off for 10 Seconds, Then start the engine. Check for proper idle speed, if failed try again. If no change then the IAC needs to be replaced. If IAC is replaced, the new IAC needs to be reset to the ECM also.
Good luck and hope this helps, and go for a test drive after the cleaning or replacement.

SOURCE: 96 Chevy Silveraldo, 5.7 Vortec v8. Idles fine,

raeally sound s as if you fuel pump pickup is clogged. this is exactly what was wrong with a 1997 tahoe. no engine codes. slow acceleratoion fine all the way to freeway speeds 70mph. but if you go full throttle truck would buck and backfire through throttle body. it is a lot of work but you must drop the tank, inspect your lines into the tank, pull the pump replace the filer and if if filter is torn make sure pump is not also clogged. good luck

Why my pontiac making a clicking sound?

is it an overhead cam motor? if not most likely the hydraulic lifters. its pretty common for gm engines (all the 96 and up vortecs do it) if the piston was hitting anything it wouldnt be a clicking noise, and your knock sensor would shut down the engine. however being that it comes from just one side of the motor im almost certain its an exhaust leak at the manifold. those are your options but im certain its an exhaust leak. hope this helps

1996 chevy k1500 runs when idleing slight miss drives down the road fine but when comming to a stop it dies

When the light flashes it means a cylinder misfire, so you must check everything, spark, (first) injector fuel delivery intake manifold vacuum leaks and compression if not other problem accounts for the misfire.

1998 chevy k1500 idle fast

Sounds like it could be a dirty or faulty idle air control valve.Take it off and clean it with a wire brush and a non-chlronated brake cleaner or replace it with a new one.Make sure you reset the computer after cleaning or replacing the valve.

YOU COULD HAVE A RESTRICTED AIR FILTER OR FUEL LINE OR FILTER.YOU COULD HAVE DEFECTIVE FUEL SUPPLY PUMP OR DEFECTIVE INJECTION PUMP.YOUR IDLE SPEED TOO LOW OR FAST IDLE INOPERATIVE.

Truck dies when i stop or slow down

this may be the cause, try it and see if it helps, it is a very common cause of problems like yours.
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Idles to fast

Sounds like a vaccum leak at the throttle body or the intake. check for loose lines hissing with the motor running. Had a brake booster line come loose on my 92 and it ran at about 3000 rpms.

Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd 4.3 vortec rough idle tried everything I know

I had the same problem with my 96 Chevy 4.3. It idled rough enough to shake the truck at a stop. It revved up fine but sputtered on take off. My truck did not want to stay in overdrive because of the low rev. I changed cap, rotor, plugs, wires and this did nothing. Finally I took the intake off and found corrosion on the side intake gaskets near the rear of the engine causing a vacuum leak.
