Question about 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

Car starts fine initially but if I turn it off and retstart it it's dead. No clicking to attempt to turn over. This has been going on for 3 days. However If I take the fuse out for the starter and put it back in the car will immediately start. Could this be a major electrical problem.

I don't think it is a major problem more likely a problem with the fuse not making contact, make sure that both the contacts where the fuse goes are close enough together to make good contact, you might have to squeeze them together a little....hope this helps....cheers

Clicking starter=car not starting

Regardless of the battery age, sounds to me as if you have a drain on the electrical system First thing to do is completely recharge battery. An initial quick inspection might show a light staying on, whether it be a door , reading, glove box, or trunk lights, among many other things. If nothing is obvious an electical reading of the system while removing and reinstalling fuses will show the circuit causing the drain, Hope this helps

ENGINE CRANKS BUT WONT TURN OVER

you meant its a NO CRANK engine.
silent starter, say the word silent.
even the starter relay must click.
and if head lamps die, so will be the starter.
due to a dead battery,
sounds like a bad battery to me. dead or only
DISCHARGED.
if the Charge/battery lamp is off in the cluster driving. its ok. the alternator.

starter car with the jumper cables connected
and not next day.
only live jumps matter. or you go know where.
if you want to walmart they have tool there that
tests the alternator
battery
and for phantom drains all in 6 min work, the tool does all the work.

if the battery is charged, it will crank I bet
its discharging.
for 1 of 3 reasons.
1: its bad.
2: the charge system is dead.
3: phantom drains, it goes dead as you sleep
the head lamps dead is the big clue there.

Car will not turn over

The most common problem would be a bad starter. The clicking sound is not always heard in a bad starter. The mentioning of no attempt to turn over shows that the process stopped at start (bad starter) Check the positive cable on the starter for corrosion. Otherwise, you will have to replace the starter. The problem is intermittent, stay aware It might start 2 or 3 times then out of nowhere. it will start give you problems. Avoid the headache, replace the starter.

Starting Problem

During my oil change visit, I discussed the problem with the service representative. They replaced the fuel regulator and it appears to be functioning well, so far.

Thanks!
