The Power Steering Fluid has a reservoir with a cap on it and has a belt and pulley connected to the device. Hoses will lead to the rack and pinion system on the firewall. Underhood Check

  • Engine oil--Check the engine oil level.
  • Coolant--Check the radiator coolant level in the reservoir.
  • Battery-- Visually check battery cables and connections.
  • Automatic transmission--Check the fluid level.
  • Master cylinder--Check the fluid level.
  • Power Steering--Check the fluid level.
  • Windshield washer--Check the fluid level.
  • Belts & hoses--Visually check all belts and hoses for wear. NOTE: In addition to the items listed above there are cases with some manufacturer's where odd components such as manual transmission/transaxles and front differentials many be equipped with a dipstick found underhood for fluid level check. If you are unsure of a dipstick on your vehicle, check with the owners manual. Need to find out where the power steering fluid is - 89531p07.jpg

How do i add the power steering fluid in the engine?

Buy the fluid at Autozone and ask them to add for you. Usually they will and show you where the fill port is. Power steering fluid should be replaced every 75K miles. Usually you can buy an inexpensive turkey baster and use it to remove old power steering fluid from the reservoir and replace it, (always use synthetic transmission fluid vs non synthetic) I find using about an ounce or two of Z-max transmission treatment added to the fluid extends pump life.

    Power steering gone

you may need to get the car on some ramps. the power steering is prone to fail near to the steering rack. check there is oil in if not then this is were it will be coming out. the joint near to the steering rack there are two pipes you will need to change one of them think it is the left one as you look up. but some times you can get away with a jubelea on it and tighten it. as the seal on the pipe comes away worst case the pipe needs tom be changed. then top up steering fluid. when finnished.

My power steering went heavy whilst driving at 50mph and i cannot drive it myself as its too heavy without power steering ('05 peugeot 307 cc) I have checked the power steering fluid which is at max and...

hi Jo,the power steering is powered by the fanbelt and if its slipping will cause it to go heavy but a light would come up on the dash to tell you the alternator was not if not the belt,it could be the electrics for the pwr steering need looking into, this is easier to get on the dealers diagnostic computer which will show up the exact fault.and would save any guesswork.

Light icon showing of a steering wheel

hi, not trying to call you wrong on this one, but i don't think your car has a power steering fluid light. if i was to take a wild guess, i would think this is probably your engine oil light. my only suggestion would be to check all of you fluids, or have them checked at a shop. please don't rate this answer unhelpful if i'm wrong about the power steering light, i've just never seen any of these lights in any vehicle before.

in the reservoir that says power steering fluid only on the cap should be on the passenger side of the car. either down by the power steering pump or up on the inner fender depending on which engine you have.

    Power steering no power ?

Three possible causes that I can think of:
    1. The belt for the power steering pump broke.
    2. The power steering pump itself failed.
    3. Loss of power steering fluid.
Best to find a local shop to deal with this. The power steering system may need servicing if adding power steering fluid doesn't work.
