2002 toyota celica clutch is there an adjustment or is it hydraulic?it also smells like burning clutch?

its a hydraulic clutch. the burning smell could be a sign that the fluid in the master cylinder is low and there isn't enough pressure being applied to the flywheel, causing the clutch to slip. if the clutch disengages at near the end of the pedals "throw", as you disengage the pedal, than its a sign your clutch plate needs to be replaced. but to me it just sounds like a hydraulic pressure issue.

How do you know if the clutch is out or the transmission

if there is a clutch problem, the symptoms are engine rpms go up on acceleration but the car only goes slow
car shakes when riding the clutch
car jerks when slowly letting the clutch out
however if the clutch system hydraulic or cable is faulty it will slip , jerk etc when you take off
My first point to check would be the cable if cable operated clutch , clutch master cylinder and / or slave cylinder if hydraulic
clutch system either cable or hydraulic will cause the clutch to slip or not disengage the clutch properly
( grating in first and reverse )
Transmission either work properly or are very noisy , jump out of gear so at this stage I would suggest that you concentrate on the clutch operation
unfortunately you didn't bother to include any details in your question like make ,model year , cable or hydraulic so the answer can only be general or what the indications of a problem are

I was told the clutch on my 2003 mazda protege is hydrolic....how do I go about adjusting it

The whole idea behind the Hydralic Clutch is there is no adjustment. If the clutch is slipping then you need a new one.If you are having trouble getting it into gear then you may have a bad clutch master and or slave cylinder.Let me know if i can help.

Sounds like there is air in the hydraulic system that operates the clutch , or fluid has leaked out. As for the new clutch slipping once a month........ ?????

Clutch slips badly in first gear,

Hi, this is a hydraulic clutch system. If the clutch is slipping, it is more than likely a worn clutch. If you had a hydraulic issue, the truck would be hard to shift, and the pedal would let out really low.It seems like you may be looking at a clutch replacement.Thanks...

Put in new clutch shifts fine but smell like it's burning, acts like it adjusted to much . it s a 97 bmw 540i, it has self adjustor, I thought i read somewhere that something has to reset in computer

Clutch doesn't have computer and is not monitored by any other system.
Very rare car here and I don't remember if it's hydraulic or cable clutch.
If it's hydraulic then there is no adjustment.
If it's a cable then it may have one.
In any case make sure that :
1)you are not riding the clutch , in other word you are not the cause of it.When you drive, keep your foot out of clutch pedal , exept when you shifting , even when you think you just have you foot on it without pressure you are wrong , little touch already apply pressure to the system disengaging the clutch.
2)Cable adjustment is ok if aplicable.
3)Clutch engaging at no more then 70% of pedal travel distance.
4)You replaced pressure plate when clutch has been done.
5)Flywheel was in a good shape(not grooved or burnt) at the time of clutch replacement.
There is a way to check if clutch is slipping.
When you go at 35-40MPH shift it to 3d gear , take your foot of clutch pedal completly then floor the gas pedal , if RPM rising much faster then you gaining the speed there is a possibilities that clutch is slipping.(you can also smell it if it burns)
Make sure you are not hazard for any traffic when doing this test.

My clutch disengages very inconsistently, sometimes working perfectly then for no apparent reason, not disengaging very well at all even though the clutch pedal is to the floor. I have replaced and bled...

This sounds outrages for the hydralics, price the clutch set at the auto parts store, then ask how much in labor cost to see what it actually cost, but yes the clutch is the most likely problem.

Clutch bites high up on pedal movement

check clutch master cylinder rod adjustment and pedal height should be just higher than brake pedal. could try and bleed system also.
most hydraulic clutch systems have high take up points, adjust master cylinder rod, check for free play at top after adjusting if all that is O.K. then clutch plate may be nearly worn out but not slipping at this stage.

My clutch is slipping on my 1993 toyota truck. Are there adjustments I can make myself. I am fairly handy, but not a car repair expert.

Sorry, there are no adjustments on your vehicle., The clutch is activated via hydraulic pressure. The master and slave cylinders are "self-adjusting". If the clutch is slipping, you are going to need to pull the trans and replace the clutch assembly. Changing the hydraulics will not help a slipping clutch at all.

Clutch slip problem when gears are changed after 4000 rpm

you have 20k miles after the clutch has been changed, now are you used to drving clutch, secondly is it hydraulic or cable controled clutc?

if you are used to drving clutch sys probable cause is defective pressure plate or the throwout bearing is not fully releasing in other words the clutch is partialy applied all the time because of the re;ease bearing not fully releasing!!
