check the oil level in the transmission. Have a pressure test done on the box to determine if mechanical problems are present. Clean the pan filter screen.

Transmission will not shift into 3rd gear

no problems before the mud deal but problems after the mud deal means that the problems started in the mud
check for mud in connections , wires disconnected , harness problems, vacuum hose to actuator broken or missing
run the fault codes to help point to a problem area
the transmission is sealed so there will be no need to change the oil or filter--just clean and check everything that is mud affected

1990 ford ranger 4x4 4.0 had transmissoin overhaul shifted fine at first next day wont shift out if first to second

It is very important to change the filter in the pan, at the valve body, even if you have an inline magnetic filter for the ATF and I will tell you why.

My transmission mechanic Gaby, at Jul's Transmission in Hollywood, Ca. showed me last week a 2005 Ford Expedition 4wd automatic transmission's pan filter that was completely plugged/blocked, where the owner had installed an aftermarket drain plug in the transmission oil pan so that he could do regular ATF fluid changes to keep his transmission running longer.

He did not drop the transmission pan and change the filter inside at anytime. All he did was kill his ******* sooner by having a plugged up pan filter and the valve body was heavily layered in wear materials from the transmission.... His transmission crapped out at 38,000 miles. His FORD dealer had warned him that prior to installing the drain plug in his transmission oil pan, that his warranty was void on the transmission if he did that.

You're absolutely right about keeping ATF fluid clean and that inline magnetic filter for the transmission from BOSS products sounds like a great idea! I am planning to check it out and install one on my newly rebuilt 4R55E 2wd transmission. Thanks for the tip! :-)

Change the ATF fluid and pan filter and put on a new pan gasket once a year/12,000 miles. If you have a 4x4 (4WD) and do alot of offroading or if you do a lot of towing with your 4x2 (2WD) you should check your ATF even sooner and change as necessary due to it being burned or a high content of worn materials (friction material, metal, etc.) suspended in the ATF oil.

The filter in the pan mounts right at the valve body and also there is a magnet in the pan itself. That is another reason to once a year (or as driving conditions warrant) drop the pan and change the filter and clean the pan magnet.

Can my transmisson on my 2002 isuzu rodeo be low on fluid. It does go into gear but .But it does not go very far.Like the transmisson is slipping

I suggest bring the vehicle to a repair shop to :
a) check for leaks and ATF condition ( burnt smell ,shavings, and coolant in ATF) Any one of these conditions may indicate a rebuild.
b) if no leaks are found and ATF is in decent condition fill tranny to proper level and check for slipping.
c) if slipping doesn't happen after level is brought up to specs, DO a transmission oil filter and ATF change.(and be thankful you gotta away cheap.
d) if slipping still happens after level has been topped off
they(repair shop) will either "Stall Test it or pressure check the transmission " Good luck

How do i change my transmission fluid?

Transmission fluid level: As you dont have an ATF dipstick, you will have two plugs facing downward on the larger trans pan. The plug higher up on the pan is the fill/level check (stamped/recessed into the rear right corner of pan).

ATF should just dribble from this plug on a hot, idling truck, in neutral on a level surface. The lower one is the drain. The one at the back of the pan in a recess is the filler.

You need a hand pump or something similar to fill it to overflowing then top it off with the engine running. Make sure you shift through the gears a couple of times when topping off.

98 toyota camry transmission service.

You can drain and fill your trans. It will take 2.5 -3.0 quarts of DEX III trans fluid....goes in the fill tube. Or you can get said transmission flushed which changes all fluid including torque converter.....about 15 quarts. Way more thorough.

TRANSMISION OIL TYPE!

You need to use Hyundai Diamond ATF SP-II M or any fluid which lists compatible. I recommend Hyundai brand fluid but aftermarket is ok. The listing would be on the bottle. Do no use Dextron / Mercon fluids.

please rate my anwers.
Thanks
