I have a2001 holden astra 4 cylinder 1.8 litre can i remove the oil pan without taking the motor out

If had someone replace the seals you should take it back to them and let them fix it.
You can remove the oil pan without taking the motor out, but it's a LOT easier to work on if you do. You will probably take 3 times longer by trying to leave it in the car vs. taking the motor out.

Burnt out motor

the problem may be that the car is burning oil. if its oil the smoke from the back of the car should be black, white then thats your fuel burning, a combination of both would mean that your car needs a tune up and an oil change, jiffy lube express should be able to get that done for a decent price

Well you could chase it forever due to it blowing back when driving. I would take it to a car wash and wash if off real well underneath and drive it back home. It will show exactly where it's coming from.

Hi Have aJ aguar X type 05 Plate 2 litre Diesel, Oil leak coming from drivers side of the engine and ideas? Cheers Mark

sounds like a oil sending unit check the backside of your motor upperside towards firewall on drivers side, looks like a 1to 11/2 inch plugg with 2 or 3 wires comeing from it. it may also be by the oil filter.. if its wett with oil you need to change it, when they go bad you will leave an oil line or oil drip while driving.maby lots of white smoke, you can let the car idol and look underneeth to track it down.. very easy to change. any auto parts stor should have them in stock.. just disconnect the wires and take out like removing a bolt.. then replace. if its on the bottom you may have to remove the oil first unless you want oil everywhere.. i hope this helps

Can i make a small cut on the rubber of the cv halfshaft? i need to spray some wd40 in there as it seems to be squeaking a lot.

Absolutely not. Cv axles require grease, not oil. Oil is much too thin and would not help lubricate the joint at all. Any hole in the boot would cause grease to come out of it while spinning. If the cv joint is making noise the ONLY way to repair it is to rebuild or replace the joint.

My 99 Chevy Prizm uses a quart of oil about every 300 miles. No leaks or smoke. Any ideas?

Well, if you don't have any leaks then your car is using oil somehow. Thats a lot of oil to be loosing so I would start be pulling out all the spark plugs and checking to see if they look normal. Normal is a nice tan color. Not normal would have lots of white ash or black sooty material. If thats the case, you'll likely have to tear down the motor to fix it.

Oil in air filter, rough idle

Remove your oil filler cap and start the motor. If there is a lot of white smoke coming out or you hover your hand over the opening and feel a lot of air coming out then the motor is about shot.Due this when the motor is warm.
