Question about 1998 Chrysler Concorde

2 Answers

Our 98 concorde will turn over but won't fire. We are not getting any error codes codes, only p 1684 when we disconnected the battery to try and reset the security system. The fuel pump seems to be working but we don't smell any gas when we try to start it.

    it is a 3.2

  • calechar Jul 10, 2010

I unhooked one and tried it and it didn't start then tried the other one and it still didn't start. We sprayed starting fluid in the air intake and it fired and the fuel pump hums when you turn the car on and the relays sound like they are working. So we are still looking.

we have 50 pounds of pressure at the test port. how do you check for power to the fuel injectors. they check good with a meter but I'm not sure how to check if they are getting power to them.

    we have a meter

2.7? Try unhooking the cam sensor? Also if it does start after unplugging the cam sensor, don't drive it. Post back.

Thats good that you have the 3.2. The cam sensor should be in the drivers side head, in the front by the timing belt. But the problem is likely the crank sensor. This is on the passenger side, stuck in the side of the block near the back, below the exhaust manifold near the transmission.

Well if you can spray fuel in and it will start I would check fuel pressure. The pump can be running but not giving the engine the right pressure. There is a test port on the fuel rail on the drivers side between the intake runners.

  • calechar Jul 11, 2010

the pressure looks ok to the test port still won't start. still looking.

Just because fuel is coming out of the port doesn't mean you have enough to run the injectors. You need to hook a gauge to it. Also with a test light, check for power and ground to the injectors.

Check for power on the green wires to the injectors while cranking. Also can you give me some history? Did you shut it off and it wouldn't restart? Did it die going down the road. Or will it not restart after some parts were replaced? You said you tried unplugging "both"? Is that the crank sensor and the cam sensor?

Two codes p 1684 and 1685

The battery was disconnected or you may have a bad ground. The good thing that it should not effect the operation of the car. It basically lost stored data and it must get it again. However, something is preventing it which means a bad ground, PCM was replaced/bad connection, quick learn for PCM. Other than this, you need a tech who will be able to test the PCM (they need a tool to test so the connnectors are not damaged) with a test light, Fused B+ circuits and/or ground circuits. However, before doing all that, bring to an auto parts store and get them to turn the light off. That may resolve it since this is not a "problem" code.

I have a crysler town &country lx 2003 the car would not start and gives the error codes: 0134+0135+1684+0300+0442+0455+0456 what is the cause of that .pls help .thanks

Code 134 and 135 are about the O2 sensor bank one sensor one.
Code 1684 is battery disconnect or loss of power to the PCM.
Code 300 is a random miss fire.
Codes 442 - 455 - and 456 are about a leaking EVAP system which vents fumes from the gas tank.
Its possible the PCM does not have voltage which would keep the car from starting.
Otherwise, you will have to figure out if the no-start is from an ignition or fuel problem to proceed.

My 1998 chrysler wont start. i think its the alternator. i just purchased a new battery and its giving me an error code 1684. im not sure what that means.

Your code isn't listed in my library but if your new battery discharged overnight, the alternator can definitely be at fault. This can happen when one of the diodes has partially or completely shorted but this will normally also show via the battery symbol on your dashboard if it is a 'hard' short.
