Question about 1996 Chevrolet K1500

1 Answer

Engine cuts off

When I 1st start truck and put in drive it will cut off after traveling maybe 20 yards. It always cranks back up. I cannot figure out why?
Weather does not seem to matter. It does has done this off and on for the last 6 months.
This last weekend while driving down interstate (after about 2 hours) the truck starting cutting off and back on again. It did this quite a number of times. When traveling at speed (65-75) it would start itself, when I got off teh interstate and was going below 30 I would have to put in nuetral and restart myself. Once again it always restarted. I did add about 2 quarts of water to the truck camped for 3 days and it drove the 3 hour trip home with no problems.
Then I went to hardware store and it was back to cutting off when
I took off, but of course it started back up and drove home

This is a hard one to fiqure out unless the vehicle does not starty at all because you have distinguish if it is gas or spark. The distributer has a module that may be breaking down. You have to remove the Dist cap and rotor to get to the module. It has two screws that hold in place using 1/4 inch nut driver to remove it. You can take it to oriellys and they can test it to see if it is good or bad. If you have a check engine light on you can take the truck to auto zone to see what codes are in the system. They will do this for no charge.

Car cut off while driving

Bad news....if you ran low on oil, the car likely sustained engine damage and will need major engine repair/replacement.

A mechanic can determine the exact issue.

The engine on my 2000 MPV cuts out and dies when I press the accelerator. After it sits for an hour or so, I can travel for 20 min. or so before the problem starts again. HELP!

if its been a while change the fuel filter and then have the fuel pressure and volume checked.these symptoms are very common for a fuel pump problem.

Just put n a new fuel pump. Car ran for about 5 miles then cut off. it sat for 20 min before starting up again. has since cut of several times but restarts immedaitely. Can't figure out whats wrong

if check engine light is on. have the car scanned for a problem code. any auto parts store will scan for free. but that is the symtoms of a bad crank sensor. have it scanned first.

Truck will not start. it cranks but will not start. i was driving and came to a stop light, truck sputtered and cut off. i put it in park and started it again, it ran for 10 yards and cut off again. after...

sounds like a poss fuel pump failure, get a can of spray starting fluid from a car parts store, spray it in the air intake to the engine, if it starts you need a new fuel pump, if no start still u have a loss of spark and need to have the trouble codes tested, there will be a code for what caused the loss of spark.

Its the electronic shift control located just under the battery ontop the transmission replace or repair will solve the issue

it'll go into drive but once it reaches 1500 rpm it'll drop into neutral as a safety because at this rpm it is being told to shift gear and when it fails to do so it safely goes into neutral

it will go into reverse just fine and park and you can run all the low drive gears until you reach 1500 rpm then it'll cut it off

i pulled mine out re soldered bad components on the board to fix it but im an electronics engineer it may be easier for you to just replace it
