two full rear doors,2 windows.Passenger door.So the back of the van is not accessible right now unless you get inside and put something back there.

You'll have to remove the door panel from the inside to get the door open. Then after the door is open there is an access panel between the doors to get the handle out of the door.

problems with 3 out of 4 doors? Has your vehicle been in an accident just before these problem started? Cavaliers are known for problems but I have never heard of this type of situation unless the vehicle has been in an accident and the body wasn't realigned properly or verified.

Typically when you get a door that opens from one handle and not the other the problem is inside the door and part of the latch assembly has either broken or come apart. To fix it you have to open up the door itself and get to those controls.

The reason I asked about the vehicle being in an accident is because you described the door opening on it's own. Now that could have been because it didn't catch correctly but with all the other problems you mentioned I am concerned that the doors are out of aligned.

this could be a couple of problems 1 the handle portion that connects to the actuation rod is broken or the actuation rod has popped out of the handle. Either way you will need to remove the door panel to identify the problem.

Broken door

Unfortunately, door handles are subjected to very large forces, especially when someone who is used to a much harder door to open uses one that only needs a fraction of that force to open. The handle goes straight to its stops and all the rest of the energy has to go somwhere - generally into the plastic lever that is only as thick as a pencil. Are you the first owner from new? As for "having too many problems", I know many people who would swap broken door handles and worn CV joints or split boots with you just so that you can deal with their serious, undiagnosable problems instead! You just have to see some of the questions posed by frustrated car owners on sites such as this to be made aware that you are probably fairly lucky. I tend to be biased though, as my family and I have owned Suzukis since 1985, and we wouldn't have kept going back for more if they wrere really that bad! Good luck.

Broken rear hatch door handle on Toyota Sequioa

It sounds like the handle has become disconnected from the mechanism. You will have to remove the inner door panel and reattch. It is not a complicated or difficult job but if you get a professional it could cost upwards of $100.

Power Door Locks - 1996 Honda Accord Wagon - Rear Hatch

I had the same problem. A weather mat got stuck when the hatch closed. After freeing the mat, the hatch would not open. The lock button would go up and down, but the hatch stayed locked.
What happened was the the plastic holder for the metal arm that connected the lock button to the mechanism broke.
There are no screws holding the inside panel, just metal tab clips.
First, I took off the inside close handle--2 bolts. Then I had to work my way from the center tail light, unscrewing it and popping off the left and right trim pieces--metal tab clips. These were covering the back panel. Now the hard part was getting the back panel off. It does pop off and I found it very hard to get something behind the edges.
The plastic holder that held the metal connector in place had broke. I used two plastic pull ties to hold the connector in it's place. Reversed the procedure and it works again.

Broken passenger door handle

Same problem. I have a 2000 Suzuki Esteem GL. A year ago the driver's door handle broke. Heard a sound and then it was loose. Could not open it from outside. Had to open front passenger door, open the driver's door from inside and then go out again to enter from the driver's door. FRUSTRATING. My mechanic had to take the door apart to fix it. Just a week ago, my front passenger door died on me. Can't open it from outside nor inside. The door won't open. This is such a stupid problem that costs lots to repair. Never will buy a Suzuki again. Had too many problems with it (had to fix gas tank, doors that won't open, front axle...).

Door handles (exterior)

This won't solve the problem once the latch is broken, but can help keep you from breaking your door latch on cold frosty days.

Shortly after buying my 99 Park Ave I noticed that the rear door handle on the driver's side was black, instead of painted gold to match the rest of the car. I presume that the previous owner had the problem mentioned above. To avoid breaking the flimsy plastic handles when my doors are frozen shut (which is often during the winter in upstate New York!), I use the remote to unlock the doors, then I open the rear door first. By opening the rear door first you can grab the edge of the door at the wheel well, while pulling gently on the latch. By applying most of the force to the edge of the door at the wheel well you can avoid breaking the door latch.

While the rear door is open you can repeat this process to open the front door, grabbing the edge of the door in the crack created by the open rear door, and lifting gently on the front door handle. (Just make sure the rear door isn't closed in the process or you will crush your fingers!) This approach has worked many times during the last two winters that I have had my Park Ave. Hope it helps others!

BACK DOOR HANDLE BROKEN.. HOW CAN I OPEN?..OR REPAIR?

just wondering if you were able to fix. i am pretty sure one can fix it yourself if you can get access by removing the interior panels (starting with the top, sides, and finally bottom - you can just pry them loose. they pop back into place). however, i havent tried to take them off with the door closed. is it possible to take the panels off with the door closed?
