4 cylinder starts but when you start pressing on the gas it acts like it is starving for fuel when you back off it will run but when you press down to pass it starts to cut out.

My 2004 Honda civic won't start. It will start fine minute then I will run into the store and it won't start. It acts like it is starving for gas. If I wait a while it will start.


Check the fuel filter. Air cleaner. Vacuum lines and fuel pump. And all fuses. Make sure the gas cap is venting and dont trust the fuel gauge fill it up.

There My friend you have a bad fuel pump or you have a rich fuel air mixture that needs adjustments.

Possibly blocked fuel filter, when you press the pedal it starves the engine or fuel causing it to cut out. Only a few quid for a fuel filter so I'd start there

If your vehicle is fuel injected I would say you have a blown fuel regulator. This would cause excess fuel into the cylinders (flooding) causing a miss and coughing and also blow fuel into the air breather. If will also cause the vehicle to run poorly and could cause the vehicle to stall. Also to much fuel on startup can flood the cylinders and cause the vehicle to no start.

Mustang stalls when trying to drive and will shut down


Measure fuel pressure on injector rail - should be 38 to 40 psi. If low or fluctuating, then replace regulator. Another possibility is the in-tank filter being clogged - rare I know, but trash in the gas tank and it's clogged.

Car turns over will not start


  1. Check to see the condition of the spark ur getting from the distributor. If it is not sufficient, let an auto-electrician look at ur distributor
  2. Are u certain fuel is being reached to the cylinders. If not check to see if there's a fuel blockage or any other reason that might casue the fuel to not reach the cylinder.
  3. If the timing belt has severed, the camshaft will not be able to turn inorder for fuel to be entered into the cylinder. I doubt this might be the problem though.
