High mounted stop lamp is not working

This is a rare instance of an actual "short circuit". You can tell because a fuse is blowing. Shorts circuits normally can't exist without some damage taking place, and in this case it's a blown fuse. The high stop light should not be related to the dashboard, but you really should check the stop light, it might be filled with water, which would blow a fuse. Have you identified, which fuse is blowing? That might be a clue. Either way, you have a real short circuit and you have to find it. Not always easy, but look for obvious things. Wires that are pinched, or rubbing on something. Check anything that has been tampered with since the vehicle is new, like an aftermarket alarm system. They are famous for poor electrical work.

No power to ignition or dashboard?

I don't have a wiring diagram for a 96 model, but 99 and newer models have a 40amp and 80amp maxi-fuse that powers the charging and ignition systems including the switch.
You need to make sure those fuses are good by checking both sides with a test light.

My dashboard wont light up when all my lights are on i am travelling at night on my renault laguna

Hi,
Try to turn the rheostat switch, that dims the light in the gauge, it might have been turn to the least position.
If there are still no light the dimming switch might be broken. The interior light works w/ any lighting system for switches and illumination inside the car.
Check the fuse, 15 amps, red color, "acc light", in the fuse box.

Hope that helps you out!

Signal/Dashboard/Brake Lights Are Out! 2005 Toyota Corolla S

Most likely a fuse is bad, get out your owners manual and see which one powers the lights. Buy a good test light and it will help you the rest of your mechanic career. Then you can test the fuses without pulling them out to look at them, and test them electrically. first to confirm they are indeed getting power and then that they are good.

All the lights work, but when turning on the night lights, the dashboard goes out and none of the lights turn on, but they all work, and the fuse gets blown every time

the fuse gets blown out because of a short-circuit, you would need to check the night light and dashboard wiring. You will need car manuals for your car or you need to get a Haynes' Manual which has detailed circuit diagrams and ways to help you fix this problem.

The ABS light on my golf gti 1997 wont come on dashboard when ignition turns on brakes seems ok would notice difference if the ABS was kupput... dose the ABS system have its own fuse? Or would it more...

use a test light to determine all fuse s are properly working or look in the owners Manuel it is however possible for a light to go bad but i would check the fuses with a test light first

The dashboard light does not come on at night

check your dimmer knob, it should be on your left hand side on your dash board, turn on your lights then turn it, if that does not solve the problem check your fuses

Sounds like you are on the right track. Jump the pressure switch and see if the compressor comes on.
