Question about 2000 Audi A6

2 Answers

My Audi A3 started leaking oil. I noticed it when I tried to top it up. I made the mistake of trying to drive the car about a mile before I gave up. Have I done some seriours damage to the engine. I took it to a garage and they told me something about bearing and needing a new bottom box or worse still a new engine! What are my options.

You never drove it without oil in it did you????????
well smack your legs,,,realy hard too!
if its the engine running with no oil in it was the "red"oil light on? if so you more than likely need a recon engine now,,,your cheapest option is fit a second motor in your car,,,but buy a low milage one with a waranty,,,never drive a car with no oil in it?

Well, if you seized the bearings, you're looking at a big job, unfortunately.

They can try to remove the bearings from below and replace the 2 half shelled bearings for each crankshaft bearing and/or the piston rods.

However, if they go that far, they might as well also overhaul the engine.

This repair is, I'm sure you might already know, not cheap.

Perhaps you could get an engine from a salvage yard.

Hope this helps.

Is there anything I could add to reduce oil burning in my 2009 Audi A4

A4 always requires adding oil before it is due for an oil change, but only a few hundred miles is excessive. I buy 5 qts when it is on sale. Do you notice any leaks in garage?

You're going to need to visually inspect for leaks and if no external leaks are evident I suspect your head gaskets are leaking again - check oil for coolant in oil - it will look milky

General rules of thumb: Low speed engine on acceleration with smoke in the exhaust plume = worn piston rings High speed engine accelerating (spooled up turbo) with smoke = oil form turbo bearing and/or piston rings Engine on over run (coasting down, foot off the gas) with smoke = oil from valve guides. VW/Audi make good engines with tight tolerances so none of the above should apply at 62K miles; just make sure that the oil (the right oil) and oil filter are changed regularly.

Car will not speed up when revs go up on automatic a3 diesel audi when i pull over and stop engine it drives ok then after 5 miles it looses speed even though revs are normal

Start by checking the fluid level, some of these dont have a dip stick and get low on trany fluid and cause this problem, i would start with that first then scan computer to see if any codes are stored and last would be an over haul of trany.

Loosing oul

Well have you got smoke from the exhaust when you start up or stop at the lights etcOR have you got a oil leak under the car.
And change your oil and filter again and go to SHELL 20w 40 and you should have no more problems also it dose not cost the earth and its the best you can get,,,And if a leak then get it fixed first..

AUDI A3 intake flag motor

I had the exact same problem. The check engine light would come on then go off. I didn't notice any drivabiltiy issues. End the end I had to replace the flapper motor, the high pressure fuel pump and the camshaft. They showed me the old parts and sure enough the camshaft lobe was worn down and the cam follower that actuates the fuel pump was in pieces. Needless to say it was very expensive. It's been a problem posted on many Audi sites. I went ahead and had the timing belt changed. Now she's as good as new.
