The tank's filler tube may be leaking either at a hose clamp connection or metal tube rusted away and has holes.

That's what hapened to my 1990 Cadillac Deville, anyway. Had to replace the filler neck.

Strong smell of gas..no visible leak...Any input??

All it takes is to have fuel seep for a smell. Inspect all fuel lines and fuel injectors/pressure regulator for dampness/stains. Make sure fuel cap seals well. If fuel tank is filled to the max, it can cause the charcoal canister to fill with fuel as well resulting in a gas smell.

The gas smell may be from filling the gas tank too much. When filling tank, do not over fill tank. when the fuel nozzle clicks off the first time do not add more fuel. It will back fill into the emission evaporator canister and therefor smell like gas fumes until the fuel tank get's lower. on a hill the gas in the tank may flow into the opening of the evaporation canister. I have had this happen and thought it was a leaking fuel line. Don't over fill Fuel Tank...

You have a check light on (OBD System Malfunction)

Gas smell, gas leaking, check light on for awhile

Gas smell inside car and when refueling it constantly stops like the tank were full

beetles have what they call a "positive pressure"gas tank(the vent is in the cap)and it has a restriction in the filler to stop fuel leaking out if the car overturns. So if you try to put too much fuel in it will kickback and fill the recess in the fender.hence smell in car after refilling.......
(had 30 plus beetles in 3 years all great....when i worked for vw).

After fill up smell of gas

maybe the gas smell is on your hands? or it's just kind of lingering for a while. as long as it goes away after a little while, and you don't notice that your gas is leaking out of the tank I would think everything is fine.
