Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee that has developed a really ban sporadic misfire when at crusing speeds around 60+ mph. I have replaced the coil pack plugs etc. And nothing resolves the problem. What else is possible to find out and fix the problem?

Well, I had a bad misfire on my 1990 Cadillac Devile that after I changed the egr valve, the plugs, wires, and the fuel injectors, still did it.

Took it to another technician who found that it was the computer not firing one of the fuel injectors.

Would a bad coil pack cause a cylinder to misfire?

Yes, it would. But not the whole pack, just the coil for that cylinder would be the problem. Try swapping them around and see if the mis-fire follows the suspect coil.

TRY TO TIGHTEN THE PCM CONNECTORS UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FIREWALL. COULD BE A BAD CONNECTION. THERE ARE THREE LARGE WIRE CONNECTORS GOING INTO THE COMPUTER HELD IN PLACE BY THREE BOLTS. YOU'LL NEED A 10 MM. SOCKET AND A RATCHET.HOPE THIS HELPS. GOOD LUCK

Misfire code on 2001 2wd jeep cherokee what can we try

I would lean toward a dead coil pack or a dead plug, there is no way to test the coil pack other than removing it and keep the wires plugged in and install spark plugs in the grommet cavities of the coil pack and check for spark across all cylinders( assuming its a 4.0L)

You say you changed the cam sensor. A1391 code is a crank sensor on the top of the trans. bell housing.
