My oil warning light on the panel is alerting. I have plenty of oil and no leaks. I need to know where the oil sensor is found. I can't find it in the Haynes Manual.

Most, but not all car engines have an oil pressure switch or sensor and it tends to be located mostly in the oil filter head or screwed into the main oil gallery but I have seen them fitted to the cylinder head oil gallery.
A few engines also have a switch to signal oil filter blockage and others a sensor to monitor oil temperature and there are others with oil level sensors.

It is a good idea to check the vehicle handbook so to be certain what sort of switch or sensor you are seeking.

Recently changed the oil for my 04 silverado, but the change engine oil warning will not go off, how do i correct this

After changing the oil and filter, reset the monitor by proceeding as follows:

Turn ignition On, but do not start engine.

Fully depress and release accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.

If CHANGE ENGINE OIL lamp flashes for five seconds, this indicates system has reset.

Start engine. OIL LIFE should change to 100%.

If CHANGE OIL SOON lamp lights again, repeat reset procedure.

Oil warning light keeps coming on

if you don`t hear any engine noise then its more than likely the oil pressure switch is acting up. this is likely a coincidence that it happened after the oil change. have the oil pressure switch replaced.

Just change oil last month and still warning for change oil and overheat with a lot of coolant

sounds like a head gasket issue, was the oil discoloured white in colour, bear in mind heat is caused by friction overheating will cause damage and possibly engine seizure.. which very expensive. unfortunatly a head gaket replacment is usually not cheap either as damage tothe metal also usually occurs when the gaket leaks.

Mechanic book

which engine? size?
the ECU nor any lamp can save the engine with no oil or too low
or never changed out.
you missed, week level checks.
and if levels drop fast (as it will driving real fast)
you check more often, in fact you learn what your engine needs.
my guess is loss of oil pressure,
the idiot lamp( just name) comes on with its TOO LATE..
on most cars made.
get a real gauge called oil pressure.
or the engine overheated
or just bad luck.
what seized, cam , crank or rod bearings.
the machinist will tell you for sure what failed.
the pump or low levels.
push rod engines. the rear rod bearings like to fail first (low oil)
then on overhead cams, they bite dust first. (top end oiling can fail easy)
also, on the last rebuild did (no 2 before) the PO, ran water for antifreeze this cause the internal freeze plugs to pop and
water in oil and rear rod spun(seized)
water makes really poor oil substitute.
when you take it down there are tons of clues.
blue metal.
oil looks like chocolate milk shack
bearings spun ,cam bearings gone.
cracks in block and head.
ever inch checked then pressure tested before rebuild.

Red oil light appears

WARNING! THis could be some problme of OIL LEVEL LOW, check it and refill if is necesary. Keep running your engine in this condition could damage other components or engine itself.

If the oil level is OK, then could be some problem with the oil sending unit or oil pump.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

My oilcan light and beeping alarm intermittently come on at various speeds. I have checked the oil levels & they are good. the car runs well and does not use excessive oil. However the beeping is very...

there are a few likely reasons for this warning.
1. faulty oil pressure switch.

2. blocked oil channels in the engine.

3. oil too thin, resulting in low oil pressure. especially if not changed recently.

4. blocked oil filter. especially if the ol has not been changed recently.

the warning is there for a reason. the reason for it should be found and remedied or you risk major engine damage.
number 4 and number 1 are the most likely, but if you change the oil, flushing the engine with a proprietery engine oil flushing additive, and change the filter and switch at the same time, you can rule out all of the main causes at the same time. the switch and filter are cheap parts normally costing a few dollars each.

the VW engines are fantastic engines and will pretty much last forever if looked after.
it is worth spending the extra few dollars to do all the work at once and you know it has all been done and will last for a good number of years.

any good mechanic can do this work. or you could do it yourself with an owners workshop manual, readily available from somewhere like ebay for under $10.

if you would like more advice please feel free to ask.
