How to give a tune up for a 1990 toyota 4runner?

with many new modern fuel injected vehicles its hard to give them a tune up without plugging them into a computer or getting an aftermarket computer chip and programmer.

however, if your toyota is running a little rough and getting bad gas mileage i would reccomend a new set of spark plugs and wires. and maybe a new fuel filter, i would do the spark plugs first, if the results are not satisfactory then change the spark plug wires, and if the results are still not up to your standards comparing the way it used to run to how it runs now then change the fuel filter. doing all these things will make the vehicle run clean and efficient like it should. and if it doesnt than im sure you have a vacum or oxygen sensor problem.

just wanna hop up the performance a little bit and get better fuel mileage?
then i would suggest and personally recommend a complete K&N cold air intake kit.

What to change in a tune up for a 1990 toyota 4runner

The 1990 had points still or did it have the electronic ignition? There are only a few things to change on the electronic ignition. First the plugs have to go, get some Titanium tips in there, good for 100,000 miles, then some plug wires if you think it needs them, air filter, check all the fluids, coolant, brakes, power steering, battery water, tranny, if it has a dist with points, get a new cap and rotor and a set of points, gap them exactly to spec, or it won't run. run a can of stp through the fuel tank and clean out the injectors, or carb, the oil change doesn't come with a tune up, it comes automatically with the 3 to 5 thousand mile interval.

Dash board light came on, says ETC PWR?

"ETC PWR" means the "power mode" switch on the tranny is on. this lets the tranny rev above 3000 RPM, and is normal. look for a button near the center console and punch it. as for running rough, have someone check to make sure a coule of wires didn't get switched. also, you shoulda changed the plugs, too.

96 toyota 4 runner won't start

Check the fuel pressure. A slight dip in pressure will keep the engine from starting. When is the last time you did a tune up? Even if you are getting some spark you might not have enough. New plugs, wires, distr. cap could solve this problem. Or try a new fuel filter. When diagnosing a car problem always do simple cheap things first, as this usually ends up being the cause.
