Question about 2005 Honda Odyssey

1 Answer

We filled the gas tank and stopped for a short time. 2005 Honda Odyssey would not start and the dash said "emissions". Had to have towed to dealer where it sits now. Battery is fine. Removed and reapplied gas cap. Do you think it is bad gas?

Have a 2005 Odyssey and recently having a tough time turning the steering wheel. Checked Power Steering fluid but it is OK. After car gets going it isnt a problem. What is wrong? Temps have been around -5...

More than likely it is still the power steering pump. What is happening is the fluid is heating up and thinning out and cycling through the pump causing it to work normally. There is actually a SB about the hard steer at low speeds on the Odyssey - contact your local dealer and they should be familiar with this issue.

Apparently this code is a tricky one and hard to pinpoint it's problem and fix. I have seen it clear with just a new gas cap. Seen it clear by running nearly out of gas and filling up. I have seen it clear up with using higher octane gas for a couple of tanks. Many dealers cringe when cars come in with this code, because nothing appears wrong on their scanners, so they clear it and drive for a few miles and give it back to customers with a bill and a "we couldn't find anything wrong with it". Read the following Honda Forum post and make your own decision. Good luck. P1456 Evap Emission Control System leak Drive Accord Honda Forums

What does P0496 mean on a Saturn Vue?

When the gas pump first stops do you try topping off the tank ? You should stop filling when pump stops ,your flooding the Evaporative emission canister .

I have honda odyssey and the service engin coms on and the cod is p1456 so ineed to figur out thanks.

This probably means:
  • P1456: Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System)
  • Usually this is because your gas cap was not fully tightened. Be sure to turn it until you hear a click.
  • After you tighten the cap, it might take a couple days of driving before the light goes-out.
  • Be careful to tighten your gas cap regularly, because otherwise it puts a heavy strain on your emission system.

I have a 2007 honda odyssey that I tow behind my 2005 class a mh ,is there a fuse I can pull to stop odometer while towing?

This is a problem as I also tow a dinghy. The only way that I know is to install a battery disconnect switch. you can get one at WalMart for about $5. The concern is that you will not have the ability to use any of the dinghy's power. In other words, anything that needs to be operated will need to have power supplied from your MH. This includes braking and lighting systems. Also, every time you hitch or unhitch, you will need to re-engage the battery switch. One last note is that every time you disconnect the battery, all your stored information such as radio presets and computer info will be lost.

Good luck and I hope this helps :)

My emission light came on in our Honda Odyssey last Friday, checked gas-cap to make sure it's all good and tight. Emission light still on... What other problems do I need to check ? PLEASE HELP

Bring the Honda to a parts store to have them read stored engine codes to determine what's going on (a free service at most stores). They will plug a hand held scan tool into a diagnostic port under the dash, and 'read' any codes in the cars computer. They can explain what they mean and give advice on what to do. If you have any questions, post them with the code #;s here, we'll help.

Engine does not start after filling it

Sounds like you have a bad vent valve in the gas tank. When you fill the tank gas also fills the emission vapor canister. When you try to start it, the gas is pulled through the canister purge solenoid, flooding the engine. To test this, unplug the canister purge solenoid and see if the problem stops.
