Question about 2004 Chevrolet Aveo
How can you tell if the computer is bad in the car
The computer has no test sequence that you can do at home with the exception being that some scanners will register an internal computer fault..But in that event the remainder should be checked to ensure that it is not a false reading caused by something else.
Computers rarely fail but an indication of failure is that after making all the appropriate tests to every sensor and checking all wiring for proper connection and continuity as well as verifying that all grounds, fuses and relays are good, the computer then becomes suspect.
Many good shops will keep a known good unit on hand and install it, as it takes far less time than tracing down system faults. To do that, In many cases, the computer needs to be "flashed" to conform to your vehicle though.
Most larger auto parts stores will do a basic scan for free. I'd begin there and using a digital volt/ohm meter, see if you can track down a specific problem you are having that way. (test instructions and expected component values are listed in both haynes and chilton manuals but chilton is far better on wiring diagrams)
