Question about 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

2 Answers

I have a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix GT and it won't start. i have determined that its not getting fuel. I replaced the blown fuel pump fuse, but I'm still not getting fuel. There is a fuel pump relay also, but i don't know how to check it. Also, is there any other thing I should be looking for?

The no fuel problem is usually caused by a defective or bad fuel pump. The blown fuel pump fuse is actually pointing to the pump or circuit being bad.

Need to drop the tank, so let someone who has done it before do it, it's worth it.

Gasoline is kind of dangerous to deal with since it is extremely flammable and volatile.

the electronic sound for 4 or 5 seconds that you hear is probably the fuel pump energizing. I don't think you would hear this if the fuse was bad.

Take it to an electric shop for automobiles to determine the problem more accurately. It's worth the labor.

Good luck.

Did you check your fuel pump relay and related fuses to make sure no fuses were blown? Passenger side under-hood electrical center shows # 3 fuse 20 amp fuse controlling fuel pump and ECM. Also #12 is also Fuel pump relay in Passenger side under-hood electrical center. These would be the first things to check.

There are SO many things that could be to blame, such as a relay sticking in the Engine Management System, which controls fuel cut-off on deceleration, for example.

Have you changed the fuel filter yet?
If it's the original on a 99 model and a previous owner has run the tank dry, it will have sucked dirt into the filter.

Otherwise, the fuel pump may not be working efficiently.
Does the engine sound ok and maintain steady revs, around 850/900rpm when it's started up?
