Question about 1991 Ford Econoline

1 Answer

Gas tank my tank is not switching from the main tank to the aux tank. The aux tank is full of gas, and I would like to use it before the gas goes bad, but its not switching over. I know the tank is full because it will not allow me to put in anymore gas, after putting in lots of gas. Is this a fuse problem or a wiring problem, and if its a fuse, where does it go, and what size? I dont have a manuel, and there are a few fuses missing.

Each tank must have its own fuel pump so theres no feed to aux tank so one of the empty fuse holders must be for the tank

My gas tank if full but my guage reads empty

Usually the float in the gas tank goes bad 1ST. Like the float in the toilet. Rarely a gauge goes bad.

I have a 2002 lincoln ls that has gas guage reading only a quarter tank when full. I know there is 2 pumps on this car, one is the primary pump under passenger back seat and a jet transfer pump on drivers...

Fuel pumps outside the gas tank have nothing to do with fuel gauge readings. There is a fuel level sender unit inside the tank with a float which supplys variable ground circuit to the gauge. If you can find the wire to this unit, you can ground it to see if the gauge now goes to full. If so, sender unit in tank is bad, or has bad wiring/ground.

Do I have a bad fuel pump

Not symptoms of a pump. Sounds more like a bad idle air control valve. run some fuel system cleaned in it and run a full tank of gas to see if it changes.

The gas gauge for the front tank on my 1992 F150 is stuck past full

You probably have a ground wire not making contact to ground on the front tank sending unit. OR the sending unit itself inside the tank is faulty. Either way, when a gas guage goes to full all the time (empty or full), this indicates that NO ground is available for the sending unit.

I have a 2000 Chevy 3500 box truck with 2 gas tanks. The gas guage only goes to 1/2 with both tanks full and it won't pump gas from the second tank. How do I fix this.

Fuel levels are equaled in the tanks via a frame mounted transfer pump that transfers fuel from the rear tank to the front tank where the main pump is. Your transfer pump needs replaced, and should run about 60 bucks. Should find the pump mounted to the frame between tanks.

Fuel gage goes to zero and then to full while driving

Sounds like the sending unit is bad, which is in the gas tank.

Sounds like the rear fuel pump in the tank is not working and the float or sender is bad also. check to see if the rear pump is working should make a humming noise.
