The AC system is making an purge noise not sure if when the compressor kicks on the belt slips or what because it only does it while driving not at idle. In the cab windows up sounds like purge widows down sounds like belt slip. Also does it when in defrost mode fo a split sec. each time compressor kicks on.

The belts dont generally slip if the tension pully is working .. since its likely that yours is slipping then that usually damages the belt .. check the tension pully to see if it operates properly .. make sure the belt is under proper tension .. if it is and still slips then check to see if the compressor clutch is slipping instead .. that could be a bad clutch or a compressor that doesnt have enough lube (mixed with refrigerant) ... if the belt is cracked or shows signs of being too hot then replace it .. the tension pully is usually spring loaded and sometimes it is locked in place with a bolt once it has established correct tension .. often the pivot bearing freezes and you lose control over tension .. if your air conditioner has been recharged several times then it may not have the correct amount of lube ..

If it is a purge noise the highside pressure may be getting to high and relieving pressure.Usually this can occur if there is too much freon or a restriction in the ac system. The defroster utilzes the ac as well which is why you can hear this. From your description it sounds as if the compressor clutch bearing is going bad.

I replaced the idler pulley and serpentine belt on my Pontiac G5 and now it makes a horrible noise for about a minute and the idles and stops making the noise. What's wrong ?

Take the belt off and turn all of your pullies by hand an make sure none of them are catching or siezed. Also run the car and watch your ac compressor, when it kicks in make sure it is turning

My compressor is grinding what is wrong?

Sounds like a bad clutch in the compressor. First you must discharge your AC system with an AC machine that sucks it out. Then you need to remove your drive belt by releasing tension on it by turning your belt tensioner the way it needs to go the slip the belt off the compressor pulley and NOT the entire pulley system just leave the belt on the other pulleys so it's easy to remember how it routs. Then remove your high pressure and low pressure lines that bolt to the compressor and make sure the system is discharged before you do so. Then you will have three or four bolts that hold the compressor to the engine/timing cover. After you get those out it's a wiggle game getting the compressor out of the vehicle. Once all done install new compressor in reverse order of taking it out then once it's all buttoned up you must use an AC machine to vaccume all the air out of the system to ensure proper AC operation then you charge the system to the manufactures specified value which there should be a sticker on your hood or raidiator brace on top if no sticker check the owners manual if still nothing call a Cadillac dealer and ask for the manufactures specified AC system charge weight for your vehicle. Hope this helps buddy

Car Makes Screeching Noise When Turned On With Ac On

This is very typical of a slipping A/C compressor drive belt. Inspect the belt for fraying and cracking and renew it if needed. Check the tension and make sure it is correct, and in a new one recheck after about 4 wks. It should deflect about 1 cm in the middle of the longest span with a firm push.

You can put some soap or drylube wax on the contact surfaces of the belt but that is temporary. Do not use petroleum products like WD40.

High pitched howling and screeching (yes two different noises). The howling appears to happen when the air conditioning compressor pulley engages. The screeching, my guess would be from the belt. Any...

When the AC compressor kicks on, an electrical load is placed on the alternator and the drive belt that turns the alternator pulley, if not tight enough, can cause the belt to squeal. Replacing the belt should help with that noise if the belt is stretched from wear. The screeching noise can be from a bad idler pulley, a bad belt tensioner pulley or a bad alternator pulley or a failing clutch on a very old ac compressor and rarely a water pump pulley. To check pulleys remove the drive belt and turn them individually to see if they can be tilted up down or sideways with play in the "bearing" of the pulley. Also, you may wish to visually inspect the clutch on the ac and look for melted black rubber around the bolts that secure the clutch to the compressor (stinks, smokes and melts these rubber areas if ac compressor clutch fails).

My kia spectra was making a loud squeeling noise and it has stopped but now my Air conditioner will not blow cold air ( only blowing warm to room temp. air)...is it my fan belt?

it sounds belt related. i am not sure if this vehicle has a seperate belt for the ac compressor, but if so, it sounds possible that the compressor seized and tore the belt off. have a look

Sqeaking belt(s) on a 91 accord esp. when ac is on but also at startup

That is slippage of the belt. Examine it closely to see if it shows cracks and sign of wear. Changing it to a new belt should solve the problem if it shows signs or wear. As the belt ages it gets hard and the surface gets a glaze on it, which causes it to slip a bit.
There are two other things to try, make sure the belt is tight enough, because, of course, if it's a bit too loose it will slip and squeal. There is also a product available at parts stores called 'belt dressing', which, when sprayed on the belt surface, helps it grip better and can eliminate the noise. Also check to make sure the 'squeak' you hear when the ac is on isn't the compressor pulley making the noise.

When the fan motor kicks in is making too much noise

the noise is the drain on the belt drive system upon AC start up, the belts may need to be tightened or the AC compressor clutch is in need of replacement, if you are saying when car stops you mean the engine is shutoff then this statement does not apply but if you mean when the vehicle comes to a stop at say a stop light then it applies.

There is a squeal sound (high pitch) coming out of

The seal on the AC compressor has probably failed and allowed all the refrigerant and lubricant to be lost. This allows the bearing to run dry and now it is failing and making noise.

1. You could have the AC repaired, the compressor repaired or replaced and the system refilled.

2. You could have a mechanic disconnect the system and possibly remove the compressor (only if this model does not use a belt that relies on the compressor being in place).

3. It is probably way too late to try to refill the AC system with R134a refrigerant as it would just run out past the failed seals.

If anyone has an AC unit that just recently stopped making cold air they should attempt to recharge the unit (if it uses R134a - check your manual or underhood stickers). I just did and saved my compressor and AC unit from further damage.
