I would suggest starting the same place I do when I rebuild an engine...at a good, high quality local engine machine shop. If you tell them what you have and what you'd like to do with it they usually can tell you what's possible and practical and what isn't. Most rebuilders have a phrase that goes like this: Horsepower costs money, how fast do you want to spend? BUT there are some less expensive things they can do to improve engine life and get a few extra horses out of what you have. Good luck, hope this helps!

Thats a loaded question, best bet is to get involved with a club , a lot will depend on how much money you can afford, sometimes all you need is to replace the rear end gears, go around and ask questions, talk to speed shops, visit the local track always a good place, just remember the more power you want the more it's going to cost, and don't forget that you will also need to upgrade the braking and steering

Check the next diagrams for specific locations (clikc image for zoom), in all engines check C1 or VCM (Vehicle Control Module)...

My service engine soon light popped on and i noticed my oil gauge was dropping. i have a 1998 chevy 1500 4x4 what do you think is the problem

if you are loosing oil pressure it could be a number of different things, first of all check the oil on level ground and make sure you don't have an oil leak dumping your oil out. if your oil level is good then how long since the last oil change? could be sludge build up in your oil pump pick-up screen, could be the engine getting worn and the bearing clearance becoming too great for proper oil pressure build up. best thing to do is take it to a reputable shop and have it checked.

My 1993 chevy c1500 stalled in the middle of the street we tryed to fix the problem we put a coil, modual, and a computer in and still no spark. What else do you think we should do?

Replace the distributor, coil, and ignition module all at the same time. With HEI ignition systems generally when any of those 3 parts fail the other 2 are damaged in the process.

1998 c1500 dies when I put in gear What could be the problem?

If the engine starts and runs fine in Park, try Neutral as well. If it runs and holds steady IDLE at both positions the issue is with your transmission. In the C1500 silverado series/GMC they had a period of bad trannys. In your case it sounds like the torque converter has gone bad and basically when you engage in gear its preventing your engine from turning over, thus the die. Its an easy diagnosis using above, but the fix is costly. A new transmission for these trucks run about $2300 or more to be installed. If you are able, a local mechanic may install a used one from a junk yard a lot cheaper... issue is there you have no warranty. So if this is an everyday driver/primary vehicle I would trust a transmission shop. Otherwise find your local trusted guy and ask them about a second hand job, or a rebuild.

1993 Chevy C1500, motor mount replacement

No. Pull your bolts so you can remove the engine and then change the mounts while the engine is hanging.

Reverse went out on 1978 Chevy pickup

Nothing. Also it will be much cheaper to find a used matching transmission with low (less than 80k miles) than having a shop rebuild the old one. In most cases the used transmission will far outlast the rebuilt one. Check on the web by Googling "used transmissions".

I just installed a used 4l60e in my '97 Tahoe. On test drive, it shifts from 1 to 2, then about 1/2 way to 3, it downshifts back to 1. Any ideas about the problem?

how many miles on the tranny your put in? those don't last any more then about 120-140. the sunshell breaks, you should replace it with "the beast"

all shifting is in the valve body, you don't need to remove the tranny again. If your going to open her up and start wrenching, get a video/book on the 4L60E, you will start with check electrical components
