The "camshaft position sensor" in your case is located inside the distributer .. if its bad your cars computer will have flagged it with an error code .. many auto parts stores will read the computer free .. unfortunatly the camshaft position sensor is part of the distributer .. so you probably have to replace the whole thing .. check the wiring and connectors going to the distributor to make sure they are not damaged .. now there is a crankshaft position sensor as well that can cause similar problems .. check the pcv valve to make sure its working properly .. it can cause some stange problems if it sticks ..

It should be at the rear of the head at the end of the camshaft. some are located at the front of the head. Either one, there is a 2 prong plug that goes to it.

It's inside the distributor. You need to remove the distributor, disassemble the distributor, to replace the sensor.

If you have the 2.7L 6 cylinder, it's located in front of engine,or on the right side of the front of the engine just under the top radiator hose. There is a 13mm bolt that has a wiring support tab attatched to the top of it. Remove tab and bolt, pull on sensor with your fingers, should come right out.

On my 02 Excursion with the 7.3L Diesel, the Cam Position Sensor is located at the front bottom of the engine on the passengers side. There is one electrical pigtail plug that is attached and one bolt holds the sensor in position. It may be located in a similar location on your 05 Ex. I do not know where the crank sensor is located. I hope this helps.
