Question about Jaguar XJ6

1 Answer

I am trying to remove a jaguar 4.0 6 cylinder engine from a 1997 jaguar xj6. Do you have to pull the engine and trans out as one unit? I have removed the lower 4 bolts that connect the trans to the motor but I cannot get a tool in the top area to get the three bolts from the top area. thanks, Bill

Yes have to remove the motor and trans as one unit from the car. You will never be able to get to the top bolts on the tran any other way.

Good Luck

97 jaguar xj6 oil on spark plug and running funny

There are several possible reasons why oil is getting into the cylinders:
worn cylinder guides, worn valve guides, worn intake seals, worn or broken piston rings, leaking head gasket or incorrect grade of oil.

All but the last one will require engine disassembly to repair. A compression check will help identify the source of the oil leak. If you are using synthetic oil you may want to try a thicker oil such as 20W-50 to see if that is the cause.

I need the diagram and information how to fix the top dead center for a jaguar 1997 xj6 please can some one help me .

top dead center on each cylinder is the position of the piston on the compression stroke at it's highest point. You will need to remove spark plug and disable the ignition system then install a compression tester and crank it a little at a time until there is compression then stop asap .Then remove tester and install a skinny stick like a barbecue stick and turn the engine by using a ratchet socket on the crank pulley bolt either clockwise or counterclockwise until the stick is in the highest position

I HAVE A 1996 JAGUAR XJ6 i AM SHOWING A MISSFIRING IN MY 6 CYLINDER. i JUST REPLACED THE VALVE COVER GASKET. MY IGNITION COILS HAVE NEVER BEEN REPLACED. COULD THE SIX CYLINDER MISSFIRE HAVE SOMETHING TO DO...

Yes, definitely. I just had the same problem on my 97 xj6... car was misfiring, running very rough at idle. My last ignition coil was bad. I had it replaced and solved the problem. Try it yourself first. The repair shop wanted almost $400 to get a new coil and replace it for me. I found a coil at familycar.com for $57. I pulled one coil out and the boot was slightly melted at the end. Be very careful taking them out as nothing is cheap on our vehicles... Good luck!

My jaguar XJ6 cuts off after driving on highway and doesn't start and the battery and transmission light pops on

Fix and trade in!!! You will have to visit a local repair shop to have codes pulled from ecm (engine control module) and tcm (transmission control module) to determine what has failed.
