The security system is preventing the starter from getting current.
Have this checked by the dealer, as, you might have a problem with the security key, if so equipped.

I had a similar problem on my Cadillac when the resistor on the key was simply dirty.

But, your problem probably is deeper.

Good luck to you.

I installed a new alternator, batter, and starter in my 1997 Ford Expedition and my truck wont start unless you hit the starter. All the wires are good so what else is there to check?

Sounds like you still have a bad starter. You can get a bad one from the parts store. Go back and have them test it. Or could be cylinoid.

Not getting power to the starter

Have you put a code reader in to help you detect the problem.? I know this sounds silly, but does the horn work? Check the manual for battery relay.

Turn Key and nothing but lights and radio are fine. No sound of cranking over, is it the strater?

Hello: If the security light is NOT blinking when you hold the key in the start position then it could be the starter, If no security light blinking have a helper hold the key in the start position and the another person hit the starter with a hammer, medium blow, if car starts you have a failed starter. If security light is blinking with key in start then you have a immobilizer problem and you will need the failure code so you will know where to start your diagnosis.

It is an electrical problem with the starter or maybe the cylinoid. Lights work fine so there is enough charge in the battery. Engine will not turn over or even crank, but the lights work fine. What...

actually the battery can have a dead cell and the lights will work ok and not even blink or dim when attempting to start, but not enough juice to turn over an engine. does it click when you try to start? could be a bad connection (cable, cable ends, solenoid, or even starter armature problem). your local auto parts store can check the battery and starter off the car if you carry it to them - free of charge.

How to check the theft deterrent relay on a 1999 oldsmobile delta 88 car? starter good, fuse good starter switch good, new battery.

Not starting?
If not, try this. Turn the key to on. Security light blinking? If yes, let it blink for 10 minutes + it will stop blinking. Remove key, then insert key and start car. Computers went bad on these often.

Car starts then dies

Your antitheft system is shutting it down. You need to reprogram it. First hook up a battery charger. Then turn the key on. The security light should blink on and off. Leave the key on for 10 minutes. At the end of ten minutes, the security light will stop blinking. When it does turn the key off for five seconds. Then turn the key on. Repeat the 10minutes. Turn the key off then on. Repeat the 10 minutes a third time. At the end of the 3rd ten minute period , start the truck. It should be reprogrammed and continue to run.

Starter

you can replace the cylinoid, but I prefer to change the whole thing specially that it seems like starter drag when you buy the new starter the cylinoid will be built on the new starter,if you change the cylinoid itself, and you still need a starter youll have to buy the starter and cylinoid as one unit, and they wont take the cylinoid back that you broke, but either way I would pull the starter and bring it down to an autozone and have it checked for free,if this helps please give me a fix ya
