I think you have the wrong starter on your vehicle... remove it before your flywheel/electrical system is damaged! Take it back to the place you got it and ask them to help you resolve it.

2001 vw cabrio new Starter continues to run after starting

The replacement starter was installed incorrectly or may need shimming to allow pinion disengagement.

I changed the starter and went to try it, now the truck starts but the starter doesnt disengage. i kill the engine and the starter wants to keep it going for a few seconds. i tried again and same thing....

You may need to add shims to increase pinion gear to ring gear clearance !
Inspect the flywheel ring gear for damage or unusual wear.

?€¢
Shim the starter if applicable.

?€¢
In order to add pinion to ring gear clearance a full size shim must be used. Do not shim only 1 starter mounting bolt. There are 3 shims available in different shapes (for clearance). All are 1 mm (0.039 in) thick.

When you took off the old starter did you see any thin strips of metal ?

1995 Taurus. Starter will not disengage. Engine cranks, but will not turn over.

Find the starter relay under the hood. It may be bad and stuck so power continues going to the starter. Try a new relay Or try pulling off the small signal wire on the relay (it is from the switch), and hook battery up. If starter continues to run, the relay is bad. If starter is stopped, put the signal wire back on relay. If starter now starts operating, and key is still off, then switch may be bad .Location of relay may be at left front fender apron, in front of shock tower (like on earlier taurus models).

Truck will start but not continue to run after starter is disengaged. I replaced the distributer cap, rotor, electronic ignition modul. It is getting air and fuel. have a good spark at spark plugs during...

check the power at distributor with the key to the on positon with engine off. it should have 12v. if there's no voltage, try cranking it and if you get power, then it may be your ignition switch.

93 Ford Explorer Starter won't disengage from Fly Wheel

My ford f150 did the same thing, so I put the old starter solenoid back in( the one by the battery) and it cured the problem.
Come to find out, the after market relays aren't rated right, to get a good one, and the right one, you have to spend more and get it at a dealer.

On the 5th. starter?

Get a shim kit for the starter. Disconnect the ignition so it won't start while cranking in the start mode. Start with the thinnest shim between the starter and block. Crank and listen to the starter operation. Add more shims until the starter drive gear engages and disengages without making any wierd binding or grinding noises while cranking the engine.

My starter teeth all broke off any reasons

Drive may have been engaged when engine running, like as in accidentally forgetting it was already running, or drive was sticky & stayed engaged after start up. If this is first time it's happened, I wouldn't panic, but observe flywheel/ring gear teeth when you change starter. Check for good alignment when installing new one, just to be sure. Any odd noises from starter prior to this happening?

How to install a 1986 chevy capri starter?

The starter is located on the passenger side, right at the bellhousing for the transmission underneath the car. it is held in by 2 15mm bolts. make sure battery is disconnected before moving wires off of it, as it will zap you!. remove the wires from the solenoid on the starter, and make sure they match up correctly on the new one. bolt the new starter in with the bendix gear facing the flywheel. secure hardware, reconnect battery, and give it a test.

if the starter continues to run and does not disengage, quickly disconnect the battery, remove 2 bolts on starter, and place a shim.

you may need a shim if the starter wont line up with the flywheel correctly. any local parts house has these readily available.
