Question about Dodge Stratus
With engine running used a voltmeter and check voltage at battery, you will be checking alternator out put voltage, should have a reading of no less then 13.0 volts, if less bad alternator, the reason it keeps going dead is that the car is using the battery to run it .till the battery has no more power, then you jump it and the battery is charge up again and will run again till it goes dead again.

15 miles in not enough to charge a dead battery ...
Lets do the math ... if your battery is 500 amp hours ... it will take 5 hours to charge at 100 amps per hour. Your alternator cannot make that kind of power, neither can your 5/10 amp battery charger. Further, to make power at all, you have to put 12 or so volts into the alternator to get anything out. Your battery is dead - nothing is going in to allow or permit the making of power. (typically, alternators are 65 or 110 amp for commercial heavy duty alternators)
So, you can drive all day with your dead battery and not make one watt of power ... which is not exactly what is happening ... but you get the general idea.
If your battery is 4 or 5 years old - replace it. If it is new, get a professional battery charge into the battery at a garage. Is your alternator putting out? While at the garage, have it checked while they have the battery charger connected and your engine is running (remember; power in = power out).
