How do I remove a headliner in a 2001 toyota rav4?

roof racks are fitted on the exterior of the body and there is no need to go under the hood lining (holes = leaks) find fitting instructions and you will see how it is done . if no instructions go to a place that sells your roof racks and they will tell you how to do it.

Vt commodore rack boots

Vt commodore steering Rack boots always rip and tear, the racks always tend to leak from the internal seals.
So if this the case with yours I would recommend you just get a reconditioned steering rack and fit it but once the rack is replaced you will also need to do a wheel alignment.
steps to change rack .
1.raise vehicle on hoist
2.remove front wheels
3.remove tie rod end split pins
4.undo tie rod end nuts and inner nuts on rack ends
5.release tie rod end from hub.
6.centralise steering wheel and remove keys from ignition
7.count the number of turns on each side that tie rod come off and write down .
8.undo the 2 metal pipes that go into the rack feed and return lines and make sure u have container under the vehicle to collect old fluid.
9.undo the 13mm nut and bolt that mounts the rack to the steering colum shaft.
10.undo the 2 *19mm bolts and nuts that mount the rack to the crossmember.
11.gentle wiggle the rack and it will come away.
12.follow these steps in reverse when fitting new rack.,make sure you replace the oring seals .
13.you will need to get a wheel alignment done..

NO "FIX IN A CAN" WILL PERMANENTLY SOLVE A RACK LEAK! MORE THAN LIKELY...IF EITHER END BOOT IS LEAKING...THEY ARE GENERALLY NOT REBUILT (EXCEPT BY O.E.M. SUPPLIERS). YOU ARE MOST LIKELY GOING TO NEED A NEW OR RE-MANUFACTIURED STEERING RACK.....SORRY!

Rack and pinion? have play in wheel no sign of leaks new power steering pump installed

Hi Gunny, If your vehicle is fitted with rack and pinion steering also check the rack ends for play. The rack ends are the rods which the tie rod ends screw onto. The other end fits onto the rack of the rack and pinion. To work on those you will need to remove the rubber boots and loosen the locking washer, they can then be loosened with a wrench. If they are worn the play will be evident in the steering. When replacing them also replace the rubber boots. If the boots are worn and road grime and dust enters, you will see leakage from the rack and pinion in the near future. I always thought the Dakota was fitted with a steering box? Regards John

Rack and pinion steering lines on 98 ford explorer pressure line and return line witch one on top

the return line is only held on by clamps at both ends or one end at the rack assembly, even though the fitting it connects to may have a nut fitting that threads into the rack.the pressure line always has fittings at both ends that can only be fastened onto the pump and rack by a wrench(or line tool).

Power steering fluid is leaking - on which side of the car is the rack and pinion when sitting in the drivers seat.

Hi, Aillathu,
The rack and pinion unit fits across from left to right....It is fitted onto the cross member....The pinion is fitted into the housing at almost right angles to the rack....The rack and pinion is a very positive steeling method, giving excellent response and usually good road feel....The unit consists of the rack which is fitted into the housing and joins the left and right wheels....and the pinion at more or less right angles to the rack...A leakage usually indicates worn oil seals which become damaged when a protective boots is broken....(The protective covers fitting onto the end of the rack housing)....The pinion is the part which attaches to the Steering column and the steering wheel....
If you're intending to do this job yourself, remember to pin punch 'match marks' onto the steering wheel and the top of the column before removing the nut. Next disconnect the steering fluid lines and drain the fluid into a container....(Don't forget to use goggles)
Jack the vehicle up and remove the front wheels....Turn the steering so that the tie rod ends can be loosened and removed from the housings (this will require a taper loosening tool)....removing them can also be achieved with a large hammer, but this method is not recommended!....Set the steering at straight ahead....Remove the joint attaching the pinion to the steering column....Once removed loosen the saddles holding the assembly onto the cross member and remove from the vehicle. Replacement of the seals is not as easy as removing the unit from the car, as the job requires special adjustments made to the unit and a very clean working area. Before you do this job please make sure that the leakage is from the rack and pinion and not on one of the hoses....

How do u replace the power sterring hose in a 2000 oldsmobile intrigue

You need a 16mm flare nut wrench - they sell them at Autozone. Buy two. Usually it is the high side that leaks - remove the fitting at the pump and at the rack. To get to the fitting at the pump you might want to fabricate your own wrench with a torch:

e18efcc.jpg
To get to the fitting at the rack you will want to remove the sway bar and drop the rear two bolts on the engine/ drivetrain cradle (you don't have to disconnect the steering shaft like I did - I was replacing the rack):

Check out the pix at http://99intrigue.shutterfly.com/steering for help, but like I say, those are about replacing the rack. Route the hose under the right tie rod on the factory clip.

Replacing rack and pinion - 95 bonneville

remove battery at least 15 mins or more before starting work. mark steering rod to st/rack and remove bolt. remove two subframe bolts at rear and lower the frame thus creating space to work. remove st/ rod. lock steering from turning. very important as not have airbag problems. remove tierod ends from knuckls. remove hoses from rack and mounting bolts . remove rack assembley from drivers side. you should replace as a long rack ie. rack with new inner tie rods already fitted. reverse order for fitting. pay attention as not catch rod bellows thus tearing them. use new seals on hoses. make sure to flush system of any debri. use new p/s fluid and after starting car turn steering from end to end to bleed system off air . time appox. 3.5 to 5.0 hrs.good luck
