The compressors clutch is weak so eventually you will need a new compressor. You can check a dealer for the cost of a clutch and the magnet behind it for that is worn as well. For the money and time a new compressor would be better to buy

check the fule presure on the injector rail is a what looks like a car tyre valve connect a gauge up to this or buy one ,i use a old AC filler pipe for one of them gas can things with the end changed to a tyre valve pump end and it works ok better than paying a lot of money for one ,should read 55lbs and if the pressure drops then suspect the gauze filter on the bottom of the pump first before you replace it as its a complete unit and around 600euros as its only available from the dealer

WHENEVER I TURN ON THE AC ON MY 2006 HHR MY RPMS START GOING UP AND DOWN WHEN I REACH A STOP. WHAT IS WRONG?

Check a/c freon pressure, could be low, making the a/c compr. turn on and off, that will make your RPM to go up and down.

My 2003 suburban seems to run at a higher rpm.

Hummm, 2000 rpm does not seem high, really. But another item to look at is your FAN. The clutch fan fails and drives the fan full engauge. Sounds like a jeep...massive sounding, relating to engine RPM, but not necessarily different.

I mentiont his because a trans does not typically fail and give a few hundred RPM. Usually a slipping sensation is described....

'03 suburban transmission

It might fix the problem but you may also have a shift sensor that is starting to go bad as well take you suburban to autozone or an o'reillys if you have one of those auto parts stores near you and they can do a scan on all the sensors to tell you if your vehicle is showing any problems with any of your sensors I hope this helps you out.
