Testimonial: "@flbergeron68...thanks for the info. I've found that it may be a little more difficult to change out than I thought. Thanks for your help."

The thermostat is actually located in the back of the engine towards the front on top of the water pump! Not like the older GM's like I thought. It's a bear to get to, but can be done.

Its not the O2 sensors, or the coolant sensor or the thermostat. Get the codes read front the computer. Post those codes here before you spend any more money or install the other parts.

Where is the thermostat in my 1997 pontiac grand am se?

On most engines, if you follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the engine...usually, where the hose connects to the engine looks like an elbow with 2 bolt holding it on.
In this housing is where the thermostat is.

Hope this helps...

Need to locate and replace thermostat for 97 pontiac grand am se with a 2.4L engine.

The thermostat is under the car on the backside of the engine. there will be a metal pipe attached to the lower radiator hose. Follow that pipe to the back of the car. It is bolted to the water pump housing. The thermostat is in between the water pump housing and the metal pipe.

How do I change the thermostat on a 2001 Pontiac Grandam SE?

HI
To get to the thermostat you need to remove air cleaner box assembly from the throttle body and move it out of the way. Next, remove the nut at the throttle body that holds the steel tube that goes to the heater hose, remove all hoses that connect to this tube and raise it out of the way. Remove the steel line that goes to the radiator surge tank from the thermostat housing. Now the fun part. With a 13MM box end wrench, loosen the lower bolt from the thermostat housing. A 13 mm socket will remove the top bolt. Remove the thermostat cover and remove the thermostat. Reverse to install.

Please chek this link for replacing the thermostat...

1. My grand prix gtp has problems with leaking on the passenger side. I cannot locate the leak. 2. My engine runs too hot when ideling. I changed the thermostat but this did not help. I need your assi

Make sure your cooling fans are coming on when the temp heats up. Are you talking about a leak inside the car or outside? Inside is usaully a drain tube for the A/C stopped up. Outside, look for a water pump or intake gasket.
