Follow the big hose from the radiator to the engine, it connects to the thermostat housing. drain radiator, remove housing to access thermostat. replace thermostat, re-install hose and refill anti-freeze

follow top hose to engine. and you will find it. the hose goes directly on thermostat housing, do not forget to replace with new gasket. on housing, remove the left bolt then the right bolt then pull off housing, then you will see thermostat. drain radiator some to keep from losing to much anti-freeze. Where is the thurmostat on a BMW318I 2003 series thanks

Hi,

Your Thermo in in the front of the engine located near the Water Pump! You will have to remove the Belts to access it... There are only (2) bolts holding it in, It should be an 8mm or 10mm Bolt. Please make sure that you have new seals when you replace the thermo, don't re-use the old one's they may began to leak!

Hope this help!

What is this part called??

I've heard it called the thermostat housing. If you order it as such, the salesperson you talk with should recognize what you're talking about, even if that's not the term they use for it.
