My front door will not close because latch has locked in place, help 1999 Chevy astro van

You should be able to open it with a large screw driver. Simply put the screw driver in the hole where the latch would go and pull the handle to open the door. With the handle in the open position pull the screw driver toward the inside of the van and the latch should open right up. Then close the door. Hope this helps.

just take off the inside panel and look inside the should be some tiny silver bars that either pull up or go side to side, then pull that should open it. also you can get to the handle from the inside access and replace from an auto parts store

You are on the right track. You need to get a flashlight in there, and you will see the two nuts holding it to the door. It is a pain in the ****, but you can get to it. Make sure the windo is all the way up also.

2004 chevy astro van back seat right door won't open

not sure about your specific vehicle but i do know that in the winter, when a door closes, it grabs the pin in your doorjam like a lobster claw closes on a finger. if any moister is inside the mechinism, it can freeze very easily. also if you pull on the door handles tp try to open it...if the door handle moves freely, then you either bent or popped the rod that goes from the latch mechanism to the handles and you would have to take off the interior wall of the door to get to it and fix the rod or put it back...it used to happen to older cars allk the time.

Steps involved with repair

i believe there are only 2 - 10mm head nuts holding it in. bring long-nosed pliers, there's a spring clip and it's close quarters in there.
