Question about 1997 Dodge Caravan

2 Answers

I have a 1997 Dodge Voyager Ralleye and the speedometer needle fell off because the instrument panel shorts out once in a while and my wife smacked the top of the dash and it fell I pulled apart the dash and got the instrument panel out, put the needle back on and everything worked good except when I started the car, the speedometer registered 5mph, so it was 5mph off. I took it apart again and took off all the needles (4 of them) and put it back and now the only one that registers correctly is the temp guage. the Tac moves slightly and the speedometer doesn't move, the gas gauge goes above full! How do I calibrate them. I've done the self diagnostic check and it went thru check 0, 1, and 2 and 3 and didn't reset it.

This is a tough one, the needles need to be marked before removal, you will need to turn key on and then put needle to speedo on o mph then the tach at o rpm the coolant at o degrees, the hrad one is the fuel because you need to know exactly how much gas is in the tank, or fill the tank and then put the needle to full, again put needles on with key on, hope this works, good luck.

With the needles off and the scanner set to calibrate the speedometer and all the rest of the needles need to be installed at 1/2 full range with the system on unless otherwise noticed by the scanner.

Instrument panel goes dead

If the instrument panel on your Chrysler, Dodge, or Plymouth minivan goes dead intermittently, the problem is probably that the solder joints on the pins for the main connector have broken. You need to pull the instrument panel and resolder all the pins on the connector.

How do i get the wiring for gauges in 97 plymouth

with the ignition key off, press the "trip" button on the instrument panel, and while holding the button, turn on the ignition. the panel will do a self test of all lights and indicators. if the ones in question don't work, then it is a problem with the instrument panel itself. if they work, then you can look for shorted wires. I have technical info for most chrysler products so if it turns out that you need wiring diagrams or pinouts etc, I'm your man. good luck

1999 dodge grand caravan speedometer and rpm not working

Sound like a problem with the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) that is located in top shift linkage; its possible that need some adjust or replacement. First check fuses.

Hope helps.

1997 dodge grand caravan dash gages do not work. Also the security locks on doors do not work. The windows do not always work.

For late 90's Caravans and Voyagers they have had issues with the main PIN connection to the instrumentation. As they cannot use lead any more in solder it has become more brittle because of this small solder joints on electronics are cracking causing these issues (trust me I had to make this repair on my wifes Voyager) you'll need to remove the gage panel from the dash. To do so the trim pieces around the panel must be removed, use a medium phillps screw driver. Once you remove the gauge panel there is a plug which will need to be removed. After which very carefully look at the solder joints on the PIN connections to this panel, look for a small dark ring arond a solder joint, if you see one this is a crack. Using a solder iron carefully reheat this solder and allow to flow, this will repair the crack. Take your time and be carefull with the solder iron. As for the locks and windows check all fuses and the switches.
I hope this may have helped,

While driving 1997 intrepid, the instrument panel

I just experienced this problem. I called my mechanic and he knew what it was because it happened to his wife's Intrepid.

The solder connections on the back of the dash crack allowing it to work at times due to temperture variations. All he did was remove the cluster and re-solder it and replace it. It now works perfectly. He charged me $100. Cheaper than a new cluster!
