Question about 1997 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

2000 3.3 auto grand voyager. got a major coolant leak, to the extent that you can see it weep. Been to Chrysler garage, who said a little is coming from water pump (£275 to replace), but most is coming from the ..... cover (can't remember the name!), which is a big job and costs £660 - thats on top of the pump charge. What has gone wrong? The garage said it must be fixed, and the parts for the ... cover are only £160, but its the labour at £500 which I'm not pleased about. Any suggestions... anyone, please !

It must be leaking from under the valve cover. The time for rear valve cover gasket replacement is 2.5hrs and 3hrs for both front and rear, I would replace both at the same time and the gasket. Its advisable to get it done by technician if the coolant is leaking as the coolant is leaking from under the valve cover. Its $300 for parts and services (timing gasket $40, valve cover gasket $140, oil pan gasket set $70, and coolant flush for $50) . ''the timing cover is leaking coolant''--engines water pump is behind the cover and it is failing-. as far as parts and labor it sounds reasonable and it all sounds pretty typical for your vehicle. But still get it confirmed by any other tech before getting it repaired. To confirm the estimate cost. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Loss of coolant

Possibilities:- Have you tried inside the car, is the carpet wet under the dashboard (Heater matrix leaking) Is the exhaust steaming, dripping excessive water (Head gasket). Coolant cap not sealing, allowing coolant to boil away. System needs to be pressure tested.

Coolant

Chrysler makes their own special brand but if you check with a parts store, they can tell you what's safe to use. I top off my 2007 Town and ccountry with Prestone - the type that mixes with any coolant. Make sure you put 1/2 water and 1/2 coolant in when you refill.

Was told it is freeze plug and transmission has to come out to fix it.

Commonly known as a frost plug / welch plug, If its the rear one then yes the trans has to come out. make sure the garage fits a brass one as they do not corrode.

I have been leaking coolant and I do not know where it is going.. when I stop the car and walk around to the front,I smell antifreeze but see nothing leaking,, I also had to put some of the old green...

check heater core lines seems like they are dripping and hitting the exhaust, but check all hoses ,no mixing orange antifreeze and green is not going to hurt your engine but the orange is longer lasting then the green mixing them changes that by a little.

Grand cherokee 2005 coolant leak

Where is it coming from? Front of the engine? Side? Back? How much, a lot? Could be a lot of things. Could be a leaky freeze-plug. Could be a weeping water pump. You've got to do a little investigation to start figuring this out.

Just bought a 2000 Chrysler Grand Voyager with no owner's manual. Need to know if I do a ratio of water and coolent?

Yes, 50/50 mix. Make sure you use the correct coolant. Some time along there, Chrysler switched to red long life.
