I have a 1990 f-150 with a 300 straight 6 cylinder. I am getting voltage from battery to coil but no spark coming from it. I have replaced it and distributor also and still no spark. anyone got any ideas?

Replace the coil and ensure that you get the correct coil voltage for the vehicle Coils come in to voltages Straight 12 volt coils that start and run on 12 volts and other that start on 12 volt and run on 7 volts. Check if it needs a resister with it.

1990 Dodge Ramcharger won't start. Battery output 12v, voltage across coil terminals 6v, voltage output at coil port to coil wire 6v, voltage of coil wire output to distributor 6v. Engine will c

There should be a small white ceramic block on the firewall - this component cuts the battery voltage from 12 to 9 volts for the coil and ignition system. It has 4 wires and is called a ballast resistor.
You may need a book with the wiring diagram to be able to test it. You should have battery voltage going in and something like 9 volts coming out.
You can also run a wire with a fuse from the battery to the positive side of the coil to check the system. Disconnect the factory wire from the coil first.

I got a 89 dodge d 150 v6 no fire at the coil can run a hot wire to the coil and it runs what does this regulator look like and where is it located

Try this jumper the ballast resistor on the fire wall if you have one looks like a block of white ceramic wit two or four wires. Jump them across not up and down If you check voltage on the right side 12 volt left side lower to protect coil from 12 volts. If that doesn't work your shut down relay may be bad. If not getting voltage to resister could be the starter switch on top of steering column under dash. Key switch is not ignition switch. The key switch pulls a lever up on the ignition switch if switch is not set right it will not send power to the coil. I had two break before on me. The book says to follow the wire all the way back to the battery and look for breaks

1993 ford tarus 3.0 engine had weak spark after changed coil fired a couple of times know no spark? any ideas

Using a volt meter disconnect the electrical plug to coil and check with key on to be sure there is at least 12 volt to coils. if not or voltage is low the ignition switch may be bad, have an assistant jiggle the key in ignition while you are looking at the meter to note voltage fluctuations if any are noted ign. switch is bad also check all fuses under dash as wellas in engine compartment.

What does the ignition coil do?

the ignition coil changes low voltage from the battery (12 volts) to high voltage (about 50,000 volts) to fire the spark plugs and ignite the fuel in the engine cylinders and drive the piston down

Truck wont start. Only getting 5 volts instead of 12 to the coil and no spark. Auto shutdown relay is ok. What could be causing it to not turn on?

if you are uplugging coil and reading voltage on leads, u are reading in series withe the pcm, not voltage across coil. i have done this and read 4.9 volts. u must leave the coil connected and read the voltage across the coil by pinning the coil lead wires (green/orange and black/light gray) with the voltmeter leads or connect the meter leads at the asd relay in box on the left fender well (green/orange) and on the top row on the pcm connector on the right fender well (light gray). i did this too and read 0 volts, this means the circuit is not turned on thru the computer i think. otherwise it would read 12 volts. i havent found out why it isnt on. if someone knows, please tell us. i have had this intermittent problem for years. i have read that if the camshaft position sensor is bad, the asd relay wont be picked up. i dont know if the same thing happens if the crankshaft position sensor is bad but my guess is it does, which makes me wonder about the computer, which i replaced 2 years ago.
